You lit your cigarette, staring out at the city lights below you.
Four years had passed, you had suppressed the past. You were like the old you, business mattered most. Well, apart from your No.1 priority: Pippa.
You put out the cigarette, walking back inside from the balcony. Pippa was fast asleep in her bed, snoring gently. You smiled down at her, she reminded you of him.
You hadn't seen Onceler since the divorce went through, deciding that it would be easier to move on entirely so that you could move forward with your life.
You still spoke with Oliver, frequently. Pippa only referred to him as dude. You thought it was quite funny.
Pippa was starting kindergarten tomorrow, so you took her shopping to ease her nerves. She was spoilt, of course. But you made sure she knew respect and manners.
Pippa was very well disciplined for a four year old actually. She was very sociable, but strangely mature. When you took her into work the odd time, she would speak to everyone that came into the office, asking them how their day had been so far.
She was funny aswell, she reminded you of Onceler so much. Not only by personality, but looks. She had raven curls, and bright blue eyes, adorned with very long eyelashes. You were almost jealous.
You yawned, deciding it was probably time to get some rest. Sleep came easier to you now aswell, you had a trick: think of Pippa. That way, you could remember the best of Onceler and yourself. Within minutes, you were fast asleep.
----
"Mommy, can you make bweakfast?" Pippa tapped you repeatedly, causing you to wake up with a groan.
"Huh? Oh morning sweetie. Give mommy a second." You stretched, getting out of bed with a yawn.
You walked over to the kitchen, turning to Pippa.
"What do you want for breakfast Pip? Anything you want since it's your first day at kindergarten!" You said excitedly.
"Hmm, give me one second!" She thought, concentrating. You chuckled.
"Can you make pancakes?" She asked, you nodded. Since Onceler wasn't here, you had practised making pancakes, trying to replicate his. You had pretty much nailed it.
"Sure can!" You got the ingredients out the cupboards, getting to work. Pippa sat by the counter, sipping her orange juice.
"Soo, are you excited?" You asked her, she nodded quickly.
"You're gonna make so many new friends!" You smiled at her, she smiled back.
You finished up the pancakes, topping them with strawberries, syrup and whipped cream. You wrote 'Good Luck!' in whipped cream. Pippa was pretty okay at reading for her age, she used to look at the files when you took her to work with you.
"Good luck" She said, looking at the pancakes.
"That's right! Now after we've had breakfast I'm gonna drop you off and you have to introduce yourself. Oliver's picking you up and bringing you to the office. Ok?" She nodded at you, smiling with a mouth full of pancake. You went to get ready for work.
It wasn't just a big day for Pippa, but for you aswell. You had a meeting with Green Co to talk about the forest protection scheme.
After Thneed Inc shut down, the entire forest was under your control. Advisors told you to use it to your advantage, but you had other plans. You had sectioned off a portion of the forest and built an animal sanctuary there.
It was good for the companys image, but you didn't really care about that. The forest had given you so much, and you wanted to give back. The sanctuary was called 'Pippas Safe Haven'.
