Avery is in her car outside of Chris's house as he walks out the door. "Hey." He says, getting in the car.
"Hey! We gotta go to the gas station first, I'm almost out of gas." Chris nods and connects his phone to the car. He plays their spotify blend they created. The two "sing" to the music as they drive to the gas station(Chris sounds terrible and Avery is just laughing at Chris).
Once they get there Avery fills up her tank as Chris heads inside to get candy and some pepsi. He goes through the chocolate section and finds snickers. Avery walks in a few minutes later, going to the drinks to get mountain dew. You know, the flavored ones that are at gas stations. She gets Baja Blast and walks over to Chris, who is looking for more candy.

"What do you think Matt will want?" Avery asks, looking at the sour area.
Chris rolls his eyes, "Shouldn't you know?? You're always with him anyway."
"What do you mean?"
Chris shrugs, "I dont know, maybe because you're always fucking together? I literally asked to go somewhere, the two of us, everyday last week and your answer was always 'I'm with Matt.'"
"And why do you care? You wouldn't care if that was Ari instead!" Avery says, confused why Chris was upset.
"I- That's not the point."
"I'm sorry!! I really didn't-"
"Save it." Chris starts to walk away, going to the cashier.
"That's not fair, we can at least talk about it??" Avery says, following Chris.
"We just did."
Avery grabs Chris's arm and turns him around.
"Fine! You wanna talk soo bad?? These past couple months you've been putting Matt before me. I don't remember Matt helping you when you were crying over that dickhead Josh. Owen. Bryan. Fucking Poe!"
Avery started to form tears as Chris yelled. Everyone was watching them by now, even the cashier.
"You wanna talk about fucking exes? Remember Chloe?? Yeah we all fucking told you she was using you but you didn't listen! Then you came to us, blaming US for not fucking telling you. Which we did."
Chris's face went white, no one had ever spoken up to Chris about how terribly he treated the friend group after he and Chloe broke up.
"Fuck you. You're a shit best friend." Chris says, his face stern. Chris never really cried, especially not in front of anyone. The only time he did was in Avery's arms when their dog died a few years ago.
Chris rolls his eyes, about to walk out the gas station. He opens the door and stops, "When Matt breaks your heart just like all the others, don't come crying to me this time."
Avery wipes her tears, what the fuck?? "You're an asshole."
"I fucking hate you Avery." Chris says, stomping out the door and taking his snacks with him. That was the first time Chris had used Avery's actual name in years. Avery stood there, unable to process what the fuck just happened.
"Um Ma'am, your boyfriend needs to pay for his snacks.." The cashier said, who was an old man with grandma glasses.
"He's not my-" Avery looked around and realized the entire gas station had listened to their fight. "I'll just pay for it," She says, grabbing her money and giving it to the cashier.
"He must love you huh? He seemed pissed." The man said, "Boys that care that much are usually the good ones."
"We're not dating." Avery snaps, watching the man hand her the change.
"Mh," The man says, giving her the receipt. Avery takes the receipt and walks out to the car. Chris was in it already, on his phone.

Maybe this fight will get me to stop having feelings for her.
NARRATOR
Avery starts the car and looks over at Chris. Matt's favorite song started playing on spotify. Chris yanked his phone from the plug and they sat in silence on the drive back home.
