"What were you thinking, Seraphina!? Accepting a dinner invitation!? Getting to know a human like this!? What happened to keeping a low profile!?" Maverick yelled as Sera calmly emptied a blood bag into a styrofoam cup filled with crushed-up ice. She was clearly growing annoyed with Maverick's constant scolding and treatment of her like she was some dumb teenager.

"Maverick! Shut up!" She finally snapped, throwing the empty blood bag at him. "I have a reason for doing what I'm doing. I got invited in. I can search the house now. Besides, I think I would appear more suspicious if I didn't interact with people. I swear to God, I sometimes think you just have it out for me."

"After what happened with Oliver, I have every right--" He began to say, but was quickly cut off by the raging vampire.

"Shut the fuck up!" She screamed. "Do not say his name!" Maverick seemed to finally take that as a sign, backing down. "I have everything under control, Maverick. I will get it with time! If you expected to prance right back into this Godforsaken town and get what we needed in a matter of a day or two, then you're delusional. It takes time... and that's if it even is real."

The brunette vampire was silent for a moment, his eyes locked onto Sera's, a look of anger flaring in them. "But does it really take befriending that boy? Why not just compel him to invite you in?"

"Because compulsion should not be our go-to. If we want to be humans again, then we should at least try to act on it. We aren't monsters, Maverick. What's the point of being humans again if we lose our humanity? What truly makes us human after that?" She whispered, a frown crossing her face.

"It's so ironic hearing the very vampire who turned off her humanity and murdered a town's worth of people say that all because of what? A guy?"

"Because of love, Maverick. Because of love." She replied before picking up her slushie. "I have to go. I'll be late." She mumbled, walking toward the door.

"He never really loved you. He turned you to have someone to do this dirty work. He didn't care about saving your life. He just saw an opportunity and took it." He stated, causing her to freeze in her path.

"I know that. I've known it for years now." She wouldn't even bother to look back at him now. "That doesn't mean it wasn't real for me." She said before opening the door, slamming it loudly behind her.

Danny sat at the base of the same tree he had been for the past two days. He wasn't sure what else to do, so he simply waited for Seraphina to show up. Wasn't like he had any other friends to talk with. He didn't mind it, though. Sera was pretty good by herself. He noticed her walk up and went to say something, but stopped, noticing the sour expression on her face.

He simply stared at her for a few moments until her eyes met his. He panicked, but manage to play it off cool, ushering her over. She walked over and sat down by him, sipping on her usual "cherry" slushie. "So, I'm assuming by your silence and sour expression that you had a bad night too?"

"Yeah..." The auburn-haired girl hummed in reply. "Uh... I'm sorry, Danny."

"What? Why are you apologizing?" He asked, feeling his heart drop in his chest from a wave of panic.
