ASAEL

On my peaceful stroll towards my class I came to a halt when at a distance, I saw Verena.

She was crouching down on the grass, petting a brown, small cat while it ate from her palm.

She was smiling softly, lost in her own world and I glanced down at my wrist watch. The class is supposed to start in a few minutes, does she want to be late again?

I could have easily walked up to her and warned her about being late but I decided against that and made my way inside the building.

As I reached my class, the sudden ringing of my phone made me pause and anxiousness rose inside me when I saw whose call it was.

All the conversations between Elmer and I these days revolve around Arien only and the fact that he was calling me at this time made me worry.

Elmer works for Arien and is a trustworthy person hence I left him in charge of keeping an eye on my cousin.

The class was supposed to begin in a minute but I leaned against the wall in a corner near my class and picked up the call. "What did he do?"

Elmer sounded panicked. "He thrashed the office. He looks ready to kill anyone who approaches him."

Fuck. Fuck. "What triggered it? Does he remember what day it is today?"

"Fortunately, I don't think so that's the reason, he doesn't remember their death anniversary. I told you he is restless, he wants to find them."

"Is the TV still working or he broke that too?"

There was a pause and then, "It looks fine to me."

"Put me on speaker and then go put on the sports channel. Now."

He told me to wait and in the distance, I could clearly hear Arien's screams which broke my heart. No amount of therapy has been able to heal him.

"I said leave me the fuck alone!" I could hear him growl.

Hoping he could hear me, I said, "Arien? It's me, Asael."

I heard him breathe heavily and I took it as a cue to continue speaking casually, "Hey...Elmer told me that you are not watching today's match, why is that so?"

"What match?" He asked roughly.

I breathed a sigh of relief that at least I had his attention. "England vs New Zealand, you idiot. How can you forget? It's the series decider and you already missed the first innings. Where the hell were you?"

"I was fucking handling your company!"

"I am sure the company can handle itself if you don't work for a few hours. Go, watch the match. I unfortunately have a class so let me know the results, hmm?"

Ever since he was a kid, he was a die-hard fan of cricket and even dreamt of being a cricketer. He might not have been able to pursue his dream but fortunately, even when he has his episodes where he just forgets everything with only destruction on his mind, cricket plays a huge role in calming him down.

He grunted in agreement and then Elmer spoke, "He looks a little calm now. He is busy with the TV now."

I sighed heavily. "Good. Just let him be and give him something to eat. Don't say anything to him, make sure nothing reminds him of their death anniversary."

"Okay."

I closed my eyes and hung up the call, taking deep breaths to calm myself.

I was late for the class by my standards and I should have gone inside already but Verena didn't arrive yet.
