VERENA

"You should stay for another day." Mom spoke to Asael at the breakfast table.

Asael sat beside me, dressed comfortably in a white shirt and a pair of blue jeans, his spectacles giving him a mature look.

"I would love to", he answered politely, "however, my parents wish to see me before we go back to the States."

"Oh, right." Mom nodded in understanding. "I am sorry, it completely slipped my mind that you have your family here too."

"It's alright." He smiled softly.

"It's nice that you are taking Verena to meet your parents too," Dad said, cutting a piece of his omelette.

Asael stiffened and so did I. There was no plan which included me meeting his parents.

Asael must have planned to leave me here and go meet his family alone. Shit.

His smile faltered and he cut a glance at me before looking at my parents again, the smile back on his face. "Yes, of course. It's only fair she meets my parents when I met hers."

Yeah, I am not meeting his parents.

My parents on the other hand looked very pleased with him and the breakfast went on smoothly.

Everything went on pretty fast and I soon found myself bidding goodbye to my parents and hugging them while Asael loaded our luggage into his car (which appeared magically).

He came to stand beside me after he was done and I glanced at him, remembering how he last night woke me up and pulled me into his arms to comfort me.

He managed to make my nightmares disappear just like that.

This morning when I woke up, he wasn't in bed and I craved his warmth and comfort.

I sighed softly and followed him to the car where he opened the door for me, pretending to be a gentleman in front of my parents.

He slid inside the driver's seat and I waved one last goodbye at my parents before he drove from there.

He seemed to visibly relax once we were out of their driveway and I admired the way his fingers grabbed the steering wheel, and how focused he looked as he drove.

"So..." I decided to fill the silence. "I guess this is where I should say thank you."

He didn't reply so I spoke further, "You can drop me off at a cafe, I will manage from there. You don't need to take me with you."

His jaw clenched, his eyes focused ahead. "I am not leaving you. You are coming with me."

"What? No! I am not going to meet your parents!"

"Yes, you are."

"Asael, no. What will you even tell them about me? That I am your student and you are pretending to be my fake boyfriend?"

He glanced at me, his eyes soft and warm. "You don't have to worry about all that. I am not leaving you anywhere, you will come with me, meet my parents and if you feel uncomfortable, we will leave immediately. No questions asked."
