'Are they it?' Laila lifted an eyebrow as she picked up a piece and began eating.
'What do you mean, "it"?'
'I mean there were supposed to be like twelve, right? Even if you... count Liam out, you're left with eleven more, there're only four here. What about the rest?'
'They're either not heard from or are out there looking for more Warriors. You'll also meet some of them at war.'
'With who?'
'I don't know either. I'm not Lita.' Fedrick said as he chuckled at his own joke.
They finished their dinner and were getting ready to head out when Laura came to their table. 'Can I borrow Laila for a minute?' Laila looked at the others as they nodded at Lita. The duo climbed the stairs and reached the first floor. Lita approached a gleaming white door and unlocked it. Laila followed her inside.
It was an exact copy of Fedrick's chamber; but without the bunks- instead, there was a warm brown bed. 'Is it yours?' Lita nodded and went into a room and emerged a moment later with a small brown wooden box in her hand. 'I wasn't able to show you around but it seems you've done that on your own, anyways.
'Now, Liam wanted you to have this. One day when you grew up, he wanted you to wear it. It's a bracelet and it's one of a pair. I wear the other.' She lifted her right hand and brandished a white bracelet with a ruby in the middle. 'If you're in danger, I'll know', She said, opening the box and showing her a black bracelet with a crystal in the middle. 'It's beautiful,' Laila said, as Lita put the bracelet on her wrist. 'More than beautiful, it's to keep you safe.' Laila nodded, said her thanks and left.
She went to the common area and found a couple of Warriors still awake, huddled around a table and when she entered, all of them got up and went upstairs leaving three people.
She brushed past them and sat down at the table where the other three were waiting for her- Nick was asleep, Helena was testing out her pocketknife on a marshmallow with Fedrick trying to snatch it away so he could eat it. As soon as she came, Helena turned towards Laila and Fedrick was able to save his marshmallow and stuff it into his mouth before she could take it back. Helena glared at him and then shifted her focus back on Laila. 'Well?'
'What?,' Laila asked. 'Oh, that... was nothing.'
Fedrick, halfway through a yawn, pointed at someone behind Laila.
Laila turned around and saw Erika standing there, staring at her wrist with a scornful expression. As soon as Laila saw her, she left.
Laila looked back around with Fedrick nodding off and Nick still sleeping. Helena was looking down at them both. They didn't even do anything, but they're already snoring.
Helena aimed a kick at Nick's leg and he sat straight up with barely concealed panic. 'What? Earthquake? Avalanche? Oh, I always knew it was going to happen. Goodbye world-'
'Calm down, Nick. You've got a long life to live. Go back to your chamber and sleep.'
Nick obeyed, sleepily bumping his leg on every furniture on his way out. Helena did the same procedure on Fedrick and followed Laila out. 'Get some rest, tomorrow's a long day.' They were almost near the bottom of the stairs when Laila noticed something.
'What's that?,' she pointed at something red at the bottom of the stairs. When Helena picked it up, she saw it was a red, damp jacket. She realized it wasn't red, it was covered in blood. Eyes wide, she dropped it back down..
'What is going on?,' A voice behind them both said. They turned around to see that Laura was standing behind them. 'You are way past curfew-' Then she noticed the coat. 'Helena, what is that?'
'I don't know. We were just heading back upstairs when Laila noticed this... bloody thing.' She pointed to the jacket.
'So, they know. Go back upstairs, I'll alert the Leaders. Tell the Full and the Half-Trained to search the entire 'Quarters. And others, be on your guard,' Laura almost smiled when she noticed the bracelet on Laila's wrist and then turned around and set off in the opposite direction. 'What do they know?' Laila enquired in the usual way.
'Probably the fact that you don't know you should be a little more patient.' Helena said as she started upstairs with her. Laila didn't know if Helena was joking or not but she assumed it was door number two and stayed silent.
Helena went straight to Erika's chamber and knocked. Erika opened the door a bit more than 3 inches wide but when she saw that it was Helena, she lowered her guard and put on a scowl, opening it fully. 'What are you doing here at this hour, in the middle of the night?'
'Lita told me- told us to wake the trained ones to do a search of the entire 'Quarters. Wake the others who are trained and do it.'
'Why?'
'Because we found a bloody coat near the bottom of the stairs. Lita thinks that Zadok is trying to invade.'
She immediately walked back into her chamber. 'Where is my... oh, got it.' She walked back out, still in her nightgown, holding a bronze sword. 'Let's go.'
'Why us? Lita didn't-.' Laila started but was cut off by Erika.
'Don't be ridiculous, Lina. Not you, I was speaking to Helena.'
'It's Laila.'
'Yeah, whatever... Lily.'
'Seems you're in a good mood, want me to punch you in the face?' Laila taunted, glaring at Erika.
'Oh, really? I'm so scared, Laksa.' She sniggered. 'Huh, to be honest, you won't be able to swat a fly.'
'Want me to give you a demo, right now?'
A/N: Hate me all you want, but I'm actually enjoying calling Laila by the wrong names, lol. Are you, too?
If you're confused, I changed Laila's mom's name from Laura to Lita when I wrote this part. And it continues. Earlier chapters were written quite a while ago, hence the confusion, sorry.
Also, drop your name here if it starts with an 'L', like the MC! See ya in the next!
