The End

Hiccup stared out at the ships as they sailed away.

"They took Burn with them." Astrid said.

"I saw."

"It's a mess. You must feel horrible. You've lost everything. Your father,  your tribe, you dragon, you best friend's dragon, your," her voice quivered, "your best friend..."

Both Hiccup and Astrid knew what they were up against. Burn wouldn't make it back alive. No one would.

"Thank you for summing that up. Why couldn't Burn or I have killed that dragon when we found him in the woods. Would've been better for everyone."

"Yep. The rest of us would've done it. So why didn't you."

"Burn would have said the same thing." He sighed. "I don't know. I couldn't."

"That's not an answer."

"Why is this so important to you, all of a sudden?"

"Because I want to know why Burn didn't god damn it!" Astrid yelled, tears coming to her eyes. Hiccup was silent.

"... 300 years and I'm the first Viking who wouldn't kill a dragon!"

"First to ride one though."

"No. That honor goes to your Girlfriend."

"Do you want me to throw you off this cliff? ... So?"

"I wouldn't kill him because he looked as frightened as I was. I looked at him, and I saw myself. Burn... she found him in the cove. She was ready to kill him, she would've, but she noticed he was hurt. He couldn't fly. She's always believed far too much about fairness."

"I bet he's really frightened now. Dusk too. What are you gonna do about it?"

"Eh, probably something stupid."

"Good, but you've already done that."

"Then something crazy."

"That's more like it."

The ships had made it to the wall of mist. As they sailed within, Burn took a deep breath. She would get through this. All she needed to do was wait until everyone left the boats. Then she could free the dragons and fly away... right?

"Sound you positions. Stay within earshot."

"Stoick. I was overhearing some of the men just now, and some of them were wondering what it is we're up to here. Not me, of course. I know you're always the man with a plan, but some, not me, are wondering is there is in fact a plan at all. And what it my be and why it includes a 15 year old girl?"

"Find the next and take it."

"Ah. Of course. Send them running. The ol' Viking fallback. Nice and simple."

"Shh... Step aside."

"If you're planning on getting eaten, I'd definitely go with the Gronkle."

"You were wise to seek help from the world's most deadly weapon."

"I love this plan!"

"You're crazy. I like that."

"So, what is the plan?"

The ships were sailing through the thick fog. Silence blanketed them like winter snow.

"Oh. I was wondering where that went."

Suddenly, the ship hit and island.

"Stay low, and ready your weapons! We're here. Burn! Gobber! Come with me!"
