At the prompting of Gleeson Hedge, Demigod and Percy's girlfriend Annabeth Chase all made their way over to California with the help of Percy's mother, Sally Jackson.

Sally Jackson (writer): I was hesitant at first, letting my boy move to the west coast to per-sue such an unsure career. But I've always trusted Percy's decisions. [laughs] and I've trusted Annabeths even more.
They were such a good bunch of kids, and they had really thought this out. They all had marketable skills outside of just their music, Percy was a lifeguard for years, Leo was great with machines, Piper was taking marketing classes. I belived that whatever happened they could handle.
So I gave them my old bus, and my blessing, I baked them some blue cookies and I sent them off.

Leo: I fixed that bad boy up and named it "The Argo." Sick right? Like that crazy Greek ship. [grins] Man it was cool.
Cool bus from a cool mom.

Piper: We didn't have many belongings, so packing was pretty much a five minute process.

Jason: We drove and drove and drove. We played stupid road trivia. Annabeth dominated.

Percy: Annabeth drove most of the way, her and Hazel. [laughs] They were the ones we trusted the most behind the wheel.

Jason: For the record I offered to drive- and I'm a very good driver- but Percy went on and on about his drive with Thalia and how he just couldn't survive anouther Grace sibling crash.
Besides Hazel could parallel park.

Leo: I remember one time our tire popped in the middle of the night, on some shit street in some Ohio farmland, and I was out there fixing it and Piper and Percy hid in the fields to scare me and I ended up setting myself on fire, then the field. [chuckles] Hazel dumped a pitcher of lemonade on me.

Percy: we got arrested somewhere in Newaygo.

Annabeth: We visited the Hoover dam, the St. Lois arch. [smiles] Percy got attacked by a poodle.

Hazel: Somehow we ended up at the Grand Canyon and the Mississippi River.

Piper: Leo made me tofu tacos so many times on that trip. And then I got carsick and threw them up. Couldn't even look at them without getting nasuoues.

Leo: I introduced Pipes to To-furkey in Ohio.

Hazel: When we got to LA... it was like a shift between worlds.

Piper: We stayed at a place of my dads.
[hesitates] I didn't like being back there. I hated feeling like I was just back where I started... but we needed a place to stay. And this was our only viable option. So I called ahead to his assistant to turn on the heat and water and grabbed the spare key from beneath the potted tulips.

Percy: we pushed some furniture out of the way and setup our practice room.
And then we played.

Annabeth: I went to work, I got back in contact with Hedge, made calls to producers and clubs on the Strip.

Jason: We adopted Percy as the frontman, with Piper on harmonies.

Leo: [counting off on his fingers] Annabeth was getting her masters in 71. She had degrees in like three different subjects at nineteen, and dealing with all our our band bullshit. Oh and she was a black belt in martial arts.

Hazel: when we weren't playing in clubs, getting crappy tips and stale beers, we were practicing. Writing.
[pauses] or at least trying to.

Annabeth: Hazel was having a hard time writing her song. They had all agreed that any album or record they made should be collaborative- they each write a song, then all come together and edit.
