~Interview~

Raven: Welcome to the interview! You are my first Wattpad interview, I hope you're excited about that! I think it makes sense that we start this interview off with the prologue, right? The opening of the prologue follows the concept of lies. In fact, the very first word of the story is "lies." Can you tell me what drove you to use this as your first line, and can you tell me how it connects to Iseul's character? After all, her opening line is, "Lies are what I cannot afford to waste my time on," which is quite a fascinating introduction to the character.

crimsonbrine: Hello and thank you so much for having me. Of course, I'm excited as ever about this since the day the results were announced.

Now for the opening of the prologue, I had two things in mind: the first one being the theme of falsehood, with the very title of the book being 'Truth In A Masquerade,' and the second thing was to make it super intriguing since it was....well, THE OPENING.

I feel the first few chapters, specifically the FIRST chapter, needs more effort than any other one because this is going to be the first impression of your book, you can't fvck this up. (And if you do, it doesn't matter how well written the rest of your book is, cuz no one will ever reach that far.)

Now onto Kang Iseul, her very first dialogue often confuses people and I had one reader even comment something like: "She shouldn't be a lawyer if she can't afford people lying to her."

Funny thing, Iseul never says that she's pure and free from any of that stuff, she's a lawyer for crying out loud. Nor does she have any problem with people going about lying, she wouldn't care less.

The opening dialogue portrays something else. It's only a subtle hint of the hard boiled person she's gonna be in the rest of the story. As for the actual reason why she warns her client against lying was the fact that until and unless she knows all of his story, his wrongs, the loopholes, all of it- she won't be able to defend him!

If he wants to come out clean in court, he will have to be honest with her so that she knows exactly what questions, allegations, and theories can possibly be formed and so she can prepare to face them beforehand.

Raven: That's why I love Iseul so much: she's not pure. I love the way you put so much thought into her character, and I love her opening showing us exactly what kind of person she is. That's a good point about the defense, too! Lies really aren't something she can afford to waste her time on, huh? What an absolute killer line, and thank you for such an awesome answer!
