Chapter 2: Liberated

Mage is unconscious until he hears a voice in his head say, "Time runs short. You must awaken. You must awaken NOW!"

Mage finally comes to and sees Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Robin all imprisoned. He then looks up and sees he is also in the same situation.

Mage then says jokingly, "Man if I had a nickel for everytime I was ever locked up in something, I would have a lot of nickels." He then looks to see Superboy just looking at him and the others, not saying a word.

Mage frowns and then says, "Sorry, bad time to joke. Looks like Superboy has gone from being our attacker to our watchdog."

Kid Flash then says to Superboy, "What? What do you want? Quit staring. You're creeping me out."

Robin then says, "Uh, KF, how about we not tick off the guy who can fry us with a look?"

Mage then says, "Yeah dude, he probably has heat vision like the big blue boy scout. He just doesn't seem to use it."

Aqualad then says in a calming way to Superboy, "We only sought to help you."

Kid Flash then says to Superboy, "Yeah. We free you, and you turn on us. How's that for grat..."

Aqualad cuts Kid Flash off and then says, "Kid, please, be quiet now."

Mage then says, "I can make that possible, on second thought I probably wouldn't know how to reverse it so nevermind."

Aqualad then says, "I believe our friend was not in full control of his actions."

Superboy finally speaks and says, "Wha- what if I... What if I wasn't?"

Kid Flash then asks with a shocked expression, "He can talk?"

Superboy's hand clenches into a fist again as he practically growls his words at Kid Flash. He then says, "Yes, he can."

Mage then says, "Holy shit he speaks! I thought he was going to stand there silently staring at us for an eternity."

Both Robin and Aqualad look at Mage and Kid Flash with a disappointed look.

Mage then says sheepishly, "What? I'm not allowed to express surprise at such a revelation? Okay then I'll be quiet now."

Kid Flash then says, "Not like I said, 'it'."

Aqualad then says to Superboy, "The Genomorph taught you telepathically."

Superboy then says, "They taught me much. I can read, write. I-I know the names of things."

Robin then asks Superboy, "But have you seen them? Have they actually let you see the sky? Or the Sun?"

Superboy then says, "Images are implanted in my mind, but no. I have not seen them."

Aqualad then asks Superboy, "Do you know what you are, who you are?"

Superboy stands tall and then says, "I am the Superboy, a Genomorph, a clone made from the DNA of the Superman, created to replace him should he perish... to destroy him should he turn from the Light." The last bit that Superboy says gets worried looks from all four of them.

Aqualad then says to Superboy calmly, "To be like Superman is a worthy aspiration, but, like Superman, you deserve a life of your own beyond that solar suit, beyond your pod, beyond Cadmus."

Superboy gets angry and then says, "I live because of Cadmus! It is my home!"

Mage then says to Superboy, "Some home dude, these people kept you locked up in a pod underground away from the public eye. That's not a life man, that's called being a prisoner, a captive, you're nothing to these sickos but a weapon to exploit and dispose of when you've outlived your usefulness. You deserve to live your own independent life as your own person, not be what Cadmus wants you to be, but to be whatever 'you' want to be. We can offer you so much more than these creeps ever could. At the very least consider our offer, you may never have another one."
