Chapter 19: In Brightest Day

It's the early morning in the Cave as James slowly wakes up, he slowly raises his head and looks to see Artemis laying on top of him and sleeping peacefully, he also sees Zatanna resting next to him, laying her head on his shoulder as a pillow and holding her stuffed bunny rabbit tightly and curled into a ball.

James smiles and gently moves to gently kiss Zatanna's forehead with brotherly love, he then kisses Artemis's forehead lovingly and gently brushes some of her loose blonde hair.

Artemis hums softly in her sleep and subconsciously nuzzles her sleeping face into James's chest, murmuring unintelligible gibberish to herself with a cute smile.

James smiles lovingly and gently caresses Artemis's face lovingly, he then gently kisses Artemis's forehead lovingly again.

Zatanna's sleeping face suddenly becomes distressed, as she thrashes slightly next to James.

Zatanna then sleepily pleads, "N-no, get back....mmmhmm, don't come any closer....mhmmm....please l-leave me alone...mhmmmm..."

James immediately realizes Zatanna is suffering a stress induced nightmare and quietly hums Zatanna's lullaby and gently rubs Zatanna's back to calm her.

Zatanna then sleepily begs, "Mhmmmm bro-bro? W-where are you? I'm s-scared...mhmmmm...help m-me...."

James quietly shushes Zatanna and then whispers, "Shhh, I'm here little sis, relax I'm right here. Just go to sleep." He continues to hum Zatanna's lullaby and gently rub Zatanna's back.

Zatanna trembles in fear and then sleepily begs, "Bro-bro? Please p-protect me mmmhmmmm *shiver* don't let the e-evil puppet hurt m-me...." A few tears roll down her cheeks as she weeps in her sleep, terrified out of her mind of what she was visualizing in her nightmare.

James quietly sighs and then whispers to Artemis, "Sorry my love, but I need to comfort my sister." He then gently moves Artemis off of him and gently cuddles Zatanna, rubbing her back and humming Zatanna's lullaby.

James then quietly whispers, "Shhh, it's okay I'm here little sis, everything is alright. It's just a dream, it's not real and it can't hurt you. Shhh, rest little sis, everything is fine." He gently wipes the tears from Zatanna's sleeping face and kisses Zatanna's forehead with brotherly affection and continues to gently rub Zatanna's back and hums Zatanna's lullaby softly into Zatanna's ear, trying everything to calm his little sister's mind.

Zatanna shivers and her crying ceases, her mind calming into a sense of peace, finally sleeping peacefully again. She unconsciously scoots closer to James and clings to him desperately, whimpering softly.

Artemis stirs in her sleep and curls into a ball, snoring softly while experiencing a wonderful dream, fully cheered up from yesterday.

James smiles and then quietly says, "At least she's too invested in her dream to notice that she's no longer laying on me." He continues to gently soothe Zatanna, humming her lullaby softly and gently rubbing her back. Making sure she can and sure she's sleeping peacefully.

Zatanna's eyelids flicker to indicate she's not completely asleep anymore, but she pretends to be to not worry James or the sleeping Artemis.

James quickly notices the small movement of Zatanna and can tell she's wide awake, he then quietly whispers into Zatanna's ear, "Good morning little sis."

Zatanna sighs sadly with her eyes remaining closed and she then mumbles, "*sigh*, Good morning bro-bro *sigh*."

James's smile goes away and turns into a worried frown, he then quietly asks, "Hey what's wrong?"

Zatanna takes a deep breath to compose herself and she then admits, "I can't sleep anymore...that's what's wrong."

James nods and gently rubs Zatanna's back, he then says quietly, "I know little sis, I'm trying every trick in the book that I know to help you but it doesn't seem to work. I think it's time I take you to go see someone about these nightmares, a therapist or something."
