Chapter 20: Double Date Double Trouble

It's early morning as James slowly wakes up and yawns loudly, stretching his arms out and smacking his lips. He sees Artemis sleeping peacefully on top of him and Zatanna next to him, holding her stuffed rabbit closely to her chest.

James smiles warmly as he gently kisses both Artemis and Zatanna's foreheads, he gently brings Zatanna closer to him.

Artemis's nose wrinkles for a second and she lets out a sleepy cute sneeze, the noise almost sounding like a kitten.

Artemis smiles and then sleepily mumbles, "Mhmhmmmm bless me mhmhmmmmm...got a minor case of the sniffles mhmhmmmmmmm..." She repositions herself on James's chest and cuddles with him, caressing his lower abs lovingly.

James smiles lovingly and then whispers, "That was adorable babe, and here I thought you couldn't get cuter."

Artemis blushes in her sleep sheepishly in mild embarrassment, nuzzling her flushed face into James's chest to hide it from view.

James lightly chuckles and kisses Artemis's forehead lovingly.

Zatanna smiles sweetly in her sleep and scoots closer to James and Artemis, sleeping better than she had in days.

James smiles fondly and gently kisses Zatanna's forehead with brotherly affection, gently rubbing her head as he grabs his phone and distracts himself.

Artemis sighs in her sleep as she dreamily reminisces her tragic childhood, vividly revisiting some of her best memories she shared with Jade, knowing she'd likely never re-experience them now that her sister was a cold-blooded assassin completely corrupted by the teachings and philosophies of their evil depraved father Sportsmaster.

James gently caresses Artemis's face lovingly and gently pecks Artemis's lips, he then whispers, "Relax your dreams my love, think about something else. Think about something happy or even better think about your wonderful boyfriend."

Artemis sighs despondently as her mind flashes back to her initial final interaction with Jade prior to their re-encounter during her first official mission with the Team, where Jade solemnly promised before deserting Artemis that she'd never truly abandon Artemis because she loved her too much, and the pain of this particular memory is unbearable for Artemis to handle, bringing tears to her closed eyes as she sniffles sadly, her tears staining James's t-shirt.

James gently rubs Artemis's back and wipes the tears away, he sighs and then says to himself, "Well guess I'm going to have to take this off, fun time explaining that shit." He magically takes his t-shirt off as he continues to gently calm Artemis.

Artemis then sleepily pleads in a desperate tone, "P-please, *sniff* please don't go *sniff* we need to keep this family from falling apart *sniff* don't leave me Jadey....please ...."

James softly sighs and looks at his phone to dig Cheshire's last known location, but her current whereabouts were unknown as she had escaped the authorities once again and simply disappeared into thin air.

James softly says, "Fuck of course, last time I try to find where Cheshire is, freaking ninjas." His heart weighs heavy as he hears Artemis's cries for her older sister falling on deaf ears in her dream, reliving the experience that's haunted her for six agonizing years.

James softly sighs and then says to himself, "Fuck it, desperate times call for desperare measures." He contacts any Justice Leaguer for the location of Cheshire.

Artemis then cries sadly, "Jadey...why can't I accompany you? Do you not love me *sniff*....am I just a liability to you *sniff*...? Don't I matter in your heart...*sniff*...?" Her crying only increases in intensity and she clings tightly to James, sobbing aguishly into his chest.
