(˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ ) — chapter nine
"pinky promise"
"YUJI!"AND WITHIN A SECOND, it felt as if the world began to twist and turn in slow motion — the harsh rain that was pattering Hiyori's face felt like slow, rhythmic taps on her soft skin. Her red locks were dripping with water, sticking to her bloodied and bruised skin.
The rippling sound of cars that drove in the distance disappeared, the birds flying in the air were just barely flapping their wings. A ringing appeared in her ears. Her vision was blurred, either from her blood loss, her open head wound, the rain pestering her face, or the tears flooding uncontrollably from her eyes — or perhaps from all of the above.
Yuji Itadori's dead body was resting in her grasp.
Her eyes were staring straight and off in the distance, she didn't dare glance down. Her usually soft pink lips were spread open in shock. She felt a rumbling in her heart, it felt as if someone was reaching inside and had a solid hand around her heart, crushing it more and more by each passing second.
Hiyori couldn't read her heartbeat — but it felt as if she wasn't breathing anymore. How could she get oxygen in her lungs while holding her best friend's dead body? Her state of shock was slowly sipping away, and everything came rushing back.
Hiyori finally shifted her sobbing eyes to slowly steal a glance at Yuji, his body crumbled in her lap. His face opposed to the ground below, she could only see the back of his head. His pink hair. Oh, how she loved teasing him about it.
"Yuji, wake up," Hiyori demanded, she shifted her arms from under his own and wrapped her fingertips around him, giving him a strong shake. "Wake up."
He wasn't sleeping.
"No," Hiyori shook her head, it felt as if she hadn't blinked since witnessing Yuji collapse. "No, no, you can't be dead. You can't."
Hiyori was now shaking Yuji's entire body with such a force any human being would've been woken up. But she kept doing it, over and over, repeating with no hesitation.
He was never going to wake up again.
"No!" Hiyori yelled, and she flipped Yuji over so that his neck would be resting on her lap, and his back against the ground. His skin was cold to the touch, there wasn't his usual comfort of warmth. His eyes were closed, her eyes traced to the grave injury on his chest for merely a second before jerking back to his face. "You promised!"
It was the first time in the history of Hiyori Hinata and Yuji Itadori that one of them broke their pinky promise.
"Yuji, do you ever have a really bad feeling in your gut before you walk into something?"
