We were a slow burnUs , being so young , were hesitant to play with fire
There was me, scarred from past flames, & you, too weary of what might catch
Day by day I singed away the walls you hid your self behind
And although it took time & a great deal of patience, I cannot describe the amount of joy I had when I saw the light in your eyes flicker for the first time...
What we have is bright!
It can be seen for miles!
What we have can engulf even the saddest of hearts
It can keep a whole family warm for awhile
We ... are beautiful
But, like most fires, the wind will pick up
It will take our embers down different paths
Even though we don't want to admit it, We know it'll come
& while I pray no one ever smothers your blaze, I know you still have to learn the difference between a lover pouring water or gasoline
If along the way you find yourself burnt out & heartbroken
Just know that among the ashes, there's still a spark here for you
Because I didn't just ignite your flame, but you were kindling mine
