Nick was in and out of the house all day. Our date couldn't come fast enough. I was sick of being constantly left to my own devices with the family. Ever sense our night together, I found it almost impossible to pretend to be straight in front of his family. Every time I saw him, I wanted to kiss him and hold him.
By five in the afternoon, I retreated to the bedroom to get ready. Also because Brad and Jen started talking about Republican politics and I knew that if I stayed around I would say something that I would have to pretend to regret. Even from upstairs, I was able to hear my mom stand up to her own Liberal views. Way to go, Mom!
Deciding what to wear was like choosing which character to play on Mario Cart. Nick had to go and insult my clothes the other day. For a moment, I actually considered going through his drawers and picking something out from there.
At six-thirty, still having no idea what to wear, I paced around the room in my underwear. Underwear is a good look on me. I mean, we're not going to some fancy restaurant or a walk in the park. Yes, underwear was a good bet.
I was still pacing when Nick walked into the room around seven. "Why aren't you ready?" he asked me, swinging his car keys around his finger.
"I am ready," I told him, motioning to my half naked body. "I heard the boxer look is in these days."
He grinned and shook his head. "No, it's not." He placed his car keys on the nightstand and walked towards my dresser. "I guess I'm going to have to dress you, you little man child."
"Shouldn't you be getting ready?" I sat down on the bed and watched him as he roamed through my dresser.
"I have my clothes picked out. Now, we only have to worry about you." He pulled out a black V-neck t-shirt and tossed it to me. "You're going to need to wear jeans. It's supposed to get cold this evening." He grabbed a pair of dark jeans from the dresser and tossed them to me also. "Now, get dressed so we can go."
Chuckling, I pulled the shirt on over my head. "Where were you all day? Your parents were giving their right-winged views. I had to hide out up here because I knew that whatever left my mouth would be enough to get me kicked out of this house."
A pile of clothes sat neatly folded on Nick's desk chair and he walked over, picking up a white shirt and flannel. "Sorry about that. I needed to fill up the tank on the boat, a few friends of mine came into town, so we went out for lunch, and then I broke some glass on the boat deck while setting up. It's been a long day for me."
Buttoning up my jeans, I walked over to him as he put his flannel shirt over his white t-shirt. "It's been a long day for me too." I placed my hands gently on his sides and gave his neck a soft kiss. "If I had to hear one more comment from your dad about how Trump was the best president we ever had, I would've started throwing punches."
He chuckled and turned around to face me. "Now you get to see what I have to deal with every single day."
Leaning in, I brushed my lips across his cheek. "You better finish getting ready. I want to get out of here." I hadn't just been waiting a couple days for this date. I had been waiting for it for years without even realizing it. This was a date I needed more than anything.

The sun was almost set completely when we arrived at the harbor. We had to walk down a long dock to get to his grandfather's boat and about half way down, I grabbed his hand, interlocking our fingers and squeezing tightly. Out of all the guys I dated, I never once went on a proper date such as this.
When we arrived at the boat, I saw strings of lights and a table cloth that acted as a picnic blanket. The lights weren't on which gave it a bit of an eerie look. Nick left me after we got on the boat and went to the controls, flipping a switch. Immediately every light that was off turned on, illuminating the boat. It looked like something straight out of a movie.
