I've always loved the atmosphere of small-town cafes. My Dad would often take me to a one called 'Sunny-Hills' back in Pennsylvania, which was just a few blocks from our house. They made the best Nutella pancakes. I haven't been back since he got sick. It wouldn't be right going without him. The place Cam wanted to meet wasn't too far away from the summerhouse, so I decided to walk. I was still wearing his jacket from the night before. I figured he would probably want it back, although I didn't want to return it.

...

"Good Morning Lana!" Cam smiled as I began to approach him. He was sitting at a table outside of the cafe, holding what looked like a picnic basket and sipping on an iced coffee. The anticipation of our date filled me with excitement as I made my way towards him.

"Good Morning" I replied and sat down in the chair in front of him.

"So our date isn't actually at the cafe. I just wanted to get us some coffee." His thoughtfulness made my heart flip in a full circle. I put my arms on the table and said, "Where are we going if we're not staying here?"

"I thought we could have a picnic on the beach. Is that okay with you?" Cam placed the basket, which looked quite heavy, on the table.

"Of Course!" I laughed excitedly as he got up from his chair and held his hand out in front of me to take. I gladly took it in mine and picked up the coffee that was on the table to help him out. It was a short walk down to the beach, where we found a nice spot to put the blanket down.

"Cam, you didn't have to do any of this.. you're so sweet" I was stunned as he pulled out different types of fruit and some avocado and sprout sandwiches. The salty breeze gently tousled our hair as we sat on the surface. The sea always looked perfect in the morning.

"I wanted to do this for you." He looked up at me. I felt like I was doing the right thing. But I couldn't help but think about Conrad. He was going through something. I should've been there for him.

"Well, I appreciate this," I grinned and ate a piece of flawlessly ripened watermelon. After a few enticing conversations about our favourite movies and what music we enjoyed, just trying to get to know each other more, a few figures started to walk towards us from the ocean. Steven, Jeremiah and Conrad.

"How do you know those guys?.. If you don't mind me asking," Cam asked with a vacant expression on his face.

"I've been staying at Conrad and Jeremiah's summer house with Belly and her family for a few summers now. They're like my second family." I cleared up as I heard Steven shout something at me.

"Lana! Are you on a date right now?" He yelled. I am so going to bury him alive one day.

I mouthed 'sorry' to Cam and replied: "Go away, Steven!"

"Don't be dramatic." Steven fought back and held his hand out for Cam to shake once they reached us. "Hi, I'm Steven.. I guess you could say I'm Lana's brother and role model." Cam shook his hand and looked at me with a strange look.
