It was sunhigh, and Owlcub was walking around the nursing den. He couldn't stop going through his thoughts. He looked inside the den at the nest him and Smoldercub usually slept. It was empty. Not a soul touched it. It was a reminder of last sunhigh. He worried about how he would apologize. But he chose to instead think about other things. Like Willowcub!

The thought of Willowcub made him sigh. She was so pretty, and he wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with her. Even if he was just a cub, he envisioned their future. The beautiful cubs they would have, them being older, and being mates! Some would call him crazy, but he didn't care.

The thought then brought a sharp sting. He suddenly saw Smoldercub in his thoughts. She was giving him that look. Her eyes turned dull, and she walked away from the two. Ears and tail drooping. Everything suddenly went black. He couldn't stand to lose his best friend. He snapped back into reality when he sensed a familiar presence.

Willowcub had sat beside him. "Hey, Owlcub" she said.

Owlcub turned his head away from her eyes. "Hi, Willowcub," he said, "why are you here?"

She scooched closer to him. "I wanted to talk to you...about Smoldercub," she said. Owlcub looked up and met her eyes. "I feel really bad about what I said. I didn't mean to be so mean to her. I don't have a lot of friends, and I was just teasing her, like I do with my sister," she said, "I guess I forgot that not all cats have particularly thick fur."

Owlcub's eyes softened. He purred. "It's okay, Willowcub! We'll fix this!" he said. Willowcub purred happily. Her tail swished around, fluffy and groomed well. She curled it around her paws, and carefully adjusted herself.

Owlcub then thought about the nature around them. The sun beamed gently, and the wind blew calmly from the direction facing them, carrying the scents of the wild with it. He then caught the scent of Emberfern.

Looking up, Willowcub and Owlcub saw Smoldercub walking beside her mother, and she still looked sullen. They were walking towards them. Emberfern betrayed no emotion in her manner, and her eyes were neutral.

Smoldercub looked up at Owlcub. She mewed, "I'm sorry I got mad, Owlcub. I understand if you don't want to be friends with me anymore."

Owlcub gaped at her, shocked. "Did she just apologize to ME? I should be the one who's sorry!" he thought. Willowcub's eyes widened as well, her seeming shocked.

"No, Smoldercub!" Willowcub spoke before Owlcub could say anything, "I'm the one who's sorry! I didn't mean to hurt your feelings!" she meowed. It all seemed to spill out.

Smoldercub's ears perked up, and her eyes sparked with sudden surprise. "Ya really mean it?" she questioned. Owlcub nodded, "We never meant to hurt you."

He looked up at Emberfern. She no longer seemed neutral, and her eyes glowed with happiness. She gave a little purr. Smoldercub let out a yowl of happiness, and pounced on her friend. They chased after each other, running in many directions. Emberfern saw Rosespot sitting by the nursery, and walked up to her.

"They made up, huh?" Rosespot meowed happily. Emberfern nodded, and Rosespot purred. "Let's hope nothing happens after that," Emberfern concluded.

Willowpaw sat and watched the two other cubs. Her pupils turned to slits, and she focused only on Smoldercub.

Her ear flicked, and her lip curled in hate. "I hate you, Smoldercub. You don't deserve him like I do. I may have failed at getting rid of you this time, but trust me, I'll get you next time. One way or another!" Willowcub thought to herself.

But the two were finally the best of friends again!

And would it stay that way?
