It had been about four moons since the mishap. Owlcub and Smoldercub had made up, and continued on about their days. They still played together, ate together, and Willowcub started acting nicer to Smoldercub. In this time, the cubs were getting closer to becoming lionets, becoming more and more restless each day, excitedly waiting for the day they'd become lionets.
The sky was dark, and Smoldercub couldn't sleep. So, she got up, and left the nursing den. She started walking outside it, but when she looked behind her, the nursing den was gone. Then, Smoldercub found herself walking in the woods, with tall trees and an empty night sky.
"Am I outside of the base?" she wondered. She was walking in unknown territory. She sat, feeling calm, when suddenly, a tree erupted into flames. The orange and red fire blazed, lighting up the empty night sky. Smoldercub stood up quickly, her fur on end, and ran quickly, but a very large dead tree blocked her way out of the forest.
She looked around frantically for anyone, and saw Owlcub arising from the flames. But he didn't look so much like him, but rather a fully grown, young lion. Scarred and eyes sharper with experience. He was looking down at Smoldercub with a look of menace.
"OWLCUB! HELP ME!!" Smoldercub yowled, but instead, he held his hard stare. Another cat appeared beside him, and smirked a defiant smile. It was a she-cat that looked familiar...WILLOWCUB?! They both were older.
Owlcub looked down at Smoldercub, and spoke, "I'm not helping you. You hurt Willowcub. You deserve to burn. You deserve pain!" and he spoke this before the whole forest erupted into flames.
The fire drew closer to Smoldercub. She felt she couldn't breathe. Everything was hot, her whiskers and eyes stung, and she couldn't get out.
"OH, GREAT CLAN WITHIN THE STARS, WHAT DO I DO?!" she yowled.
Her eyes then jolted awake, and Smoldercub stood up, catching her breath, before sitting down to groom herself. Owlcub, who was right beside her in the same old nest they always slept in, woke up.
"Are you ok, Smoldercub? You've been having a lot of bad dreams lately," he said. He got up, and licked her ear.
"I'm ok, Owlcub. Just a little shook.." she responded, "It's always the same dream."
Owlcub frowned, and his eyes showed sympathy. She looked into his eyes and saw no hateful look, unlike the older version she saw in her nightmares.
She looked out of the nursing den, all around her. Sunlight poured into the den, and even danced some. Everyone else was up, and getting ready for a new day. The lions and lionesses from the dawn patrol were headed back down the stone tunnel, with clean-prey for their clan. And cats paced back and forth, some leaving, some talking.
And looking out onto the Chief's tree, you could see Junipersight speaking with Brightstar. Smoldercub had always really liked the LionClan Chief. She was very friendly with all the cubs, and even played with them sometimes.
Suddenly, Owlcub piped up. "You should talk to one of the practitioners about it. Maybe they can help you make sense of it! You keep having this dream, so it must be important," he said, concerned.
Smoldercub smiled, "I'm sure it's fine."
Owlcub nodded. "If you say so," he meowed. Smoldercub stood up and stretched, "Alright, I'm going to get something from the stash to bring to the Chiefs! Hopefully, today will be the day," her eyes beamed with the excitement of the possibility that they could finally become lionets.
"Good luck, Smoldercub! I think today might be the day, too!" he called from inside the nursing den.
After she grabbed a bird of some sort she hadn't recognized yet from the stash, she looked for Brightstar or Fallowstar. She spotted Brightstar cleaning herself on a rock.
