Of Light and Shadow

Chapter 1: Ken

A voice cries out. "Run Ken get away while you can!" A dark mist an evil shadow surrounds Ken. The darkness consuming him but then a small light appears and a voice with it it yells. "Ken wake up time for school!" Ken realized it was all a dream but it felt so real to him. Ken rolled out of his bed and got dressed in his usual attire black jeans a white t-shirt and the leather jacket his mom gave him for his birthday. He walked into the bathroom and started brushing his teeth. He ran a comb through his black hair. He thought thank god it's Friday. The bus rolled up to his house at 6:30 he gave his mom a hug and ran out to the bus bag slung over one shoulder. He stepped on the bus and took his normal seat at the very back. The bus finally arrived at Washington Regional High School. He walked to his locker and opened it up as he closed he saw a face saying."Hi Kenny." It was his girlfriend Mia she had blond hair and blue eyes and is about as tall as Ken. "Mia I told u to stop calling me that it bugs me." His full name is Kenneth Nicholas Cane. Most people called him Ken or KC and he didn't care but that one
name Kenny really bugged him."Well I'm sorry it bugs you but it fits u Ken" said Mia. Just as he went to say something. "What's up you two." It was Ken's best friend John brown hair and green eyes who is a little taller than Ken. "It's a great day here in Las Angeles." said John "Yes sir it is come on let's get to English" said Ken the other two nodded in agreement and they started to walk. While Ms.Mclain was giving a speech the benefits of something that bored everyone. Ken was doing what he always did drawing a picture of himself with shadows around him like he was manipulating them. The day went on and the final bell rang. Ken was excited to hang out with Mia they walked to her house an they were about a block or two away when they saw smoke coming from around where Mia's house is. Mia started sprinting toward her house as fast as she could and Ken followed Mia. They turned the corner and saw Mia's house up in flames with a giant creature it looked like the fusion of a dragon and a bull. Mia screamed and that got the beasts attention. The beast charged toward them. Mia hid behind Ken but the beast grabbed Ken and threw him across the street. The monster grabbed Mia and looked about ready to crush her she screamed "Kenny help me." Ken stood up thought about it how could he save her then Ken felt power surge through his body and he quickly teleported onto the monsters hand and cut it off with a blade of shadow grabbed Mia and teleported back to the street. The beast stepped back staggered and in pain.
Mia looked at Ken confused "How did you do that." "I don't know but I'm going to end this you stay here and don't get hurt." Ken charged at the beast with the shadow blade going straight for the monsters heart. With his one hand he hit Ken to the ground. Ken teleported behind the monster but the monster but its tail was three serpent heads that snapped at Ken. He cut one head off but was bit by the other two and thrown. Ken started using his imagination like he did in his dreams and tried to use the abilities he had in his dreams. He started first with the shadow blasts launching multiple at the beast and hitting it directly in the chest. Ken then thought about the black chains he used in a dream to hold another monster in place. Ken summoned the black chains and trapped the beast in place. Ken jumped into the sky and launched shadowy slashes at the monster who growled in pain and fell to the ground as Ken hit the ground feeling drained of energy the monster evaporated and the vapor blew away. Ken ran over to Mia and hugged her. "Kenny what was that thing and what were those powers you were using." said Mia very confused and afraid. "I don't know but I'm going to call my mom to pick us up then i'll figure this out." Mia and Ken arrived at Ken's house and Ken immediately started questioning his mom. "Why are their monsters attacking Mia's house and why do I have these shadow powers." Ken made his shadow blade and his mom looked on and sighed."I knew one day you'd figure it out I just thought you'd be older how did u figure it out." "Well mom a giant dragon bull thing destroyed Mia's house threw me across a street grabbed Mia and tried to crush her so I got confused and it just happened so explain now please." "Ok Ken your father is a god who can control light and darkness he had two sons and each of the sons had one of his powers one with light and one with shadow. You being the one of shadow and your brother of light he sent you to earth as babies one sent to California you and one sent to Massachusetts your brother." "Well I'm going to find him Mia are you coming." "Might as well I have nothing to go home to my parents are dead." Mia and Ken got into Ken's black Mustang and started driving to Massachusetts.
