My P.O.V. 💞 (Wednesday June 18, 2015)
It's about 5 pm and I'm finally dressed for work. My light brown hair straightened in a messy ponytail (just so it won't get in my face) and my work clothes, a red Polo along with my favorite pair of skinny jeans. I really hope my jeans don't get all dirty at work today. I work the night shift at this little coffee shop not that far from where I live in Cali. If you have ever seen the shop you would say it's really just a whole in the wall coffee shop a few blocks away from my complex building. Very few people even know about it and could care less about going there. When they and I could get much better coffee at any Starbucks around town. But hey, that's my job.
I grab my purse and phone and head out the door, locking it behind me. I made it down my complex building and turned to face the side walk. Getting ready for the walk ahead of me all the way to work, just to get there at around 5:45. That's when I have to wait to do my 6-10:30 shift. The late shift doesn't bother me much because I sleep pretty late on a daily basis with or without work anyways.
I finally made it to the little corner where the coffee shop is. I took out my phone from my back pocket to check the time and realize it was 5:48. OK, so I was a few min later then I said, but I still made it before 6 and that's what counts. I pull a chair I found next to a table and bring it close to the where my coworker Anna was standing inside the small shop waiting to attend to some customers. "Hey Anna," I said while watching her turn to face me.
"Hey JoMari;" she replied and I smiled back. Taking out my phone again, I unlock it this time and check my notifications while I wait for it to get to be 6.
A few minutes later and like one client later Anna tells me she is clocking out. I put the chair back, hug Anna a goodbye, and go punch in getting ready for a long four hours of waiting and boredom standing there waiting for clients.
About 16 clients later (around 10:25), I start to clean up the shop a bit, organize the chairs and get ready to lock up. When a car that I see pass by almost every night around the same time stops. This is the first time the car stops! A guy who looks to be maybe 20 or 21 (just a few years older them me) comes out of the driver seat. He had amazing kind of dirty platinum hair with brown roots and was wearing ripped skinny jeans and a blue plaid shirt. As he comes walking out of his car and around it, I am cleaning up a bit the tables. He walks right next to me and asks; "Are you still open?" I guess I found him cute. Ok maybe not guess, I knew and not cute but hot. So, I knew this guy was hot and I might have blushed a bit when I realized he was right next to me. I could feel him talking a bit over me while I was leaning over wiping down the tables.
I instantly grab my phone from my back pocket check the time and it read 10:26. "You made it just in time. We close in four minutes;" I reply. I believe I heard him mumble something. I think he said perfect, but I could be wrong. I walk back to where the cash register is and all the coffee machines are and ask; "What could I get you?" blushing a little for having to start up the conversation again but like it is my job to ask.
"I would like a double shot espresso and a chance to go out on a date with you." He says with a smirk on his face. I got the first part and tapped the screen and put it in the system but freak out when I hear the second part.
A bit in awe with what I just heard I manage to ask; "Would the double shot be all?" Pretending as if I didn't hear the second part, but blushing like crazy which at this point I think I resemble a tomato.
"I guess it would," he replies back with a frown growing on his face.
"Ok, that would be 1.50." While waiting for him to get his cash, I made a quick espresso and I turn around. I grab the money, put it in the cash register and then turn again, to grab his espresso and hand it to him.
I walk out of the little area and head back to the tables and chairs to organize them a bit. When I realize it was 10:30. I punch out and lock up the little shack looking thing. (That's what I like to call the little shop) When I turn around to see the guy still there sitting down finishing up his espresso. I try to stack some of the chair in a corner when I hear him say, "The names Riker and yours?"
I turn around my heart beating like crazy because that totally caught me off guard. Trying to make out words to answer back I manage to say; "I'm JoMari, and what was that whole date thing about earlier?" I keep stacking chairs while he gets up, throws away his trash and decides to help me out in stacking the chairs.
"Oh I have seen you around before, you're pretty cute so I thought..." Riker spoke mumbling and fading out by the end.
Blushing even more I replay; "I have seen your car around before too, but I don't think I would call it cute though."
Riker laughs, "So since you did hear me, could I be able to ask the cute JoMari on a date?" I ignore him once more and start moving the tablets now all close together in the same corner. Riker helps out too but decides it would be nice to shove his face into mine while helping and "well......" he said with his face only inches away from mine.
I laugh and don't answer his question but did speak, "well I got to get going home and turn off the lights. So... care to get going in that cute car of yours."
Now he laughs, "What cute car will you be getting home with?"
I look down at the ground seeing his converse, "I don't have a cute car I'm walking home and don't try following me home."
"OK I won't follow you but how about I drive you there. I wouldn't expect a pretty girl like you to walk home this late on your own."
"I thought I was cute not pretty and expect it because I do it every day after work. You nor anyone I know ever gives me a ride. So, how are you so special that I will take you up on your offer?"
"Cause now you have someone offering you a ride," he smirks.
"Doesn't mean I have to take it" and I started walking. Riker tries to walk in front of me to get to the car and open the door for me but I make it to his car before him. Leaning on the side of the car I spoke; "it's locked care to open it for me?"
He laughs and makes a confused face, "I thought you would be walking home?"
"I had a change of mind, plus it's late and going to start raining."
Riker looks up; "I don't see rain."
"Well I do, now would you care to unlock the door for me before we get wet?" I try to hold back a laugh and he walks to the driver's side and unlocks the car doors.
I hop inside and so does he. "Where do you live?" he asks. (OK now I know before you think "wow this girl is dumb getting in a car with some strange guy she just met who had been stalker her practically for days now passing by in his car looking at her" but I don't know why it didn't seem like this Riker guy was any trouble). I told him where my house was and it took him a quick 10 minutes' drive.
"Thanks for the ride home and here." I hand him a paper with my number and a note saying: "Sure let me know when." I wrote it on the car ride to my house. I finally answered his question! I ran upstairs so happy and tired that I plopped on my bed to fall asleep not to long after.
