Kaimi has kept speaking to her parents at a minimum, but it's hard. To not only be alone but isolated from her parents, as well. Not to mention that all hell broke loose in Aruba and Skyler found out. Well, whatever it was they talked about when she hung up. Kaimi felt bad for being the one to suggest that she was adopted in the first place. It would have come out at some point, but it feels like her fault.
The guilt is killing her, her mind was swimming with thoughts that wouldn't quiet down. It gets to the point where Kaimi begins to feel depressed. To avoid the depression, she does the only thing that she can think of. Kai takes a series of busses all the way down to Kafe Daniel.
When she walks in, Daniel's eyes pop out of his head as he sees her. "Kaimi, what are you doing here? You live so far away," he asks. Kaimi's original plan was to stay calm and collected. She was going to ask to talk to them. But the long journey there has her exhausted both physically and emotionally. She bursts into tears, biting her lip to try and shove them back down.
"Oh Kai, come here," Daniel coos, pulling her behind the counter to give her a hug. He leads her into the back room where the kitchen is, and Colton is there, making a sandwich. He sees her and pulls the sandwich off the grill so that he can come and hug her, too.
"What's wrong?" Colton asks.
"I just need to talk to you guys," Kaimi mumbles.
"Well, the shop is going to close in about fifteen minutes. Can I get you a latte and a cinnamon roll again and you can sit back here and eat while you wait?" Daniel offers.
"Okay, yeah, that'd be great thanks. I didn't bring any money with me..."
"You're Skyler's best friend, it's always on the house," Colton says. Kaimi smiles, trying not to break down thinking about how Skye must be feeling. She doesn't even know exactly what happened because Kai hung up, and Skyler never called back.
Once every customer was out of the store, Kaimi's cinnamon roll was long gone. All that's left is her latte as she sits, waiting for the couple to come back to talk to her.
"Alright, we're all done," Daniel says, pulling up chairs for the two of them to sit on. "Tell me what's going on."
"Well to start off with, I'm worried about Skyler. She found something out yesterday, but I don't know what because I hung up to give them some privacy. She hasn't called back, though, and it's scaring me. She could be falling apart right now and I don't even know," Kaimi says.
"Well, since she already found out, I guess it's okay that we tell you so that you're in the loop. Ashton isn't Skyler's real dad," Colton says. Kaimi's heart drops. If Skyler is adopted, she's going to feel horrible. The stories of their births and their parents' friendships were what brought them together. It would feel like the life story they'd lived by was a lie.
"Is Skyler adopted?"
"No, of course not. Bea is still her mother, but Ashton isn't the father," Daniel assures her.
"If it's not Ashton, then who is it? Does Bea know who it was?" Kaimi asks.
"It's Trevor," he says.
"Trevor? Like, Skyler's uncle Trevor?" Kaimi asks, mortified. Skyler has always been so attached to Trevor, and she can only imagine how much that crushed her. How is she dealing with knowing that one of her biggest supports was her father this entire time?
"I'm afraid so. I hope she's okay, no one has told us that she found out yet," Colton says.
"Oh god, do you think Ashton knows yet?"
"I'm not sure, but we'll leave that to Bea to break the news," Daniel says. Kai can feel tears coming to her eyes again, and before she can stop herself she's crying again. The men embrace her, and she sniffles, trying to compose herself.
