Welcome to Earth 2398. The world has you know it collapsed during the 2040s due to mass nuclear warfare. Only the wealthiest nations survived the fallout, and the remaining world leaders united and created a new Earth, built from the ruins of civilization.
They named their new world Kadon.
In the first decades, humanity struggled to rebuild. As time progressed, Kadon flourished into a metropolis of technology and innovation. This new utopia, forged from the ashes of civilization, wasn't as perfect as its founders had proclaimed it to be. The less fortunate died off, unable to afford medicine or water or food. To the super-rich, Kadon was a vibrant metropolis of neon lights and shimmering facades- where any pleasure- even immortality - could be yours- for a price.
But, as time consumed the wealthy elite, humanity surged through their veins. They began to wither and rot, with no cure in sight. So, of course, The governance of Kadon worked for a cure for a dying world.
They created a new establishment, a laboratory. In the beginning, they tested animals to no avail. With no other choices, they sent their own out into the barren wasteland of Earth, in search of new animals to test.
The ones who had gone returned with what they called spawns, creatures mutated by nuclear warfare. The spawns had evolved over the many decades and turned into creatures beyond recognition. The scientists and geneticists at the Kadon Laboratory studied the spawns and conducted violent and horrible experiments and trials on them.
The people of Kadon began to see a light in a tunnel of darkness. A beacon in a time of despair.
Humanity had been long forgotten about in the new world of Kadon. The wealthy elite of Kadon had become something else- anything but human. With their unnatural stunning beauty from genetic-manipulation and physical enhancement surgeries, they did anything and everything to maintain their utopia.
As the trials and tests in the laboratory continued, the sick and twisted scientists and geneticists brought in "Brave and honored participants". They were hailed as the heroes of a dying world- a chance to survive- maybe even flourish.
The decades past with more and more "participants", while the experiments and trials became more and more grotesque and merciless. Unlike past decades, where participants came and went as they pleased, soon the laboratory created a prison. To the outside world, the participants were saviors- but in the laboratory, they were nothing more than test subjects. These inhumane trials were known as the Corinthian Trials.
And to this day, in a labyrinth of concrete walls and iron cells, shrouded in gilded lies and deception, a place where inhumanely beautiful are tested on like animals, broken to brink of death, all in the name of hope and a new Kadon.
