20 minutes after all hell broke loose.

the streets were filled with screams and the stampede of people running all in different directions, women, men and children all being tackled by these things, which for the case of not using the Z word, we'll call them biters.

For the most part the people in their homes at the time of this were lucky, for 16 year old jess nelson, not so much.

it's times like these when speed comes in handy, the blonde girl was in school at the time, and her school happens to be next to her nephew's house, most people would search for her friends, but she instead jumps the fence and bolts towards his house, avoiding every biter in sight, she skids to a stop in front of his house, when she sees his door open, oh no.

She braces herself for what she might find and sprints into his house.

"COLE! IT'S JESS, WHERE ARE YOU" she calls out to him, her brother and his fiancé aren't in sight though either, and they wouldn't just leave their house, not with their 10 year old son either.

She sprints up the stairs to his small room but doesn't see him, she looks under his bed in a panic but doesn't find him, she checks every room before moving downstairs, and she finds blood trails into the kitchen.

Oh no.

She hesitantly walks into the kitchen and sees two bodies.

"Paul!" Her eyes water, her older brother is lying dead in front of her, his fiancé next to him, they have bite marks on them, and their guts are spilling out.

Where's Cole?

"I'm sorry." She runs into the back garden and calls out to him.

"COLE"

She gets no response and can't find him anywhere.

She paces around the back garden and puts her hands on her head as she moves around in circles, she feels dizzy.

she whispers desperately "come on buddy where are you, where are you."

After coming to the conclusion that he's ran away, she can only hope he's found a safe place, which, in this state, is highly unlikely.

She can't sprint all the way back to her parents house, not when the streets are soon gonna be flooded with biters, she has some knowledge about what to do in an apocalypse scenario because she used to play lots of games and watch movies, so she does the only thing she can do and reaches into the drawer and grabs the hammer her brother keeps.

a hatchet would be better.

she also grabs a knife and sprints out of the house, she hears groaning behind her and sees Paul, reanimated on the ground.

She tilts her head like her heart is about to break and she considers putting him out of his misery.

"I'm sorry" she can't do it, so she runs off back to the school and hops the fence, which is probably a shitty idea considering there's more people here than in the streets, however most are hopping the fences to escape or hiding in rooms, she runs around trying to find her friends, if she finds them, they can take refuge inside of the school, figure this whole thing out, and then after it's calmed down outside, eventually she can run back to her parents house, a mile down the street, yeah, that's the smart thing to do.

As biters flood the school one notices her and walks towards her, an arm outstretched as one leg drags behind it, it's one of her teachers.

"Shit!" She turns and sprints down the courtyard, when she bumps into her friend gabriel they stand there, he has a stern but worried expression plastered on his face, and they both look like they're bouncing on their heels, ready to run.
