Day 3, 12:07 PM.
The temperature spiked as the day progressed, as well as the humidity in the air. When it was the middle of the day, the sun was blazing directly above our head. The tropical wind was barely enough to keep us cool. On top of that, class C was busy running their own errands. They were sweating profoundly, causing their gym uniforms to stick to their skin.
This, was without a doubt the hottest day we'd experienced ever since we first stepped on this island.
"Ugh! This is getting unbearable!"
Of course, heat has a direct effect on human psychology. Humans tend to be more restless, emotional and counterproductive when the temperature gets warmer than usual. They even become easy-to-aggravate under situations like this. Which is exactly why drivers tend to honk and yell more in a traffic jam during the summer than in comparison to winter.
"Hey! Stop slackin' off, Onizuka!" Yamauchi roared.
"Wha-? I'm not! Are you blind?" Onizuka shot back.
"Then why're are you sitting there doing nothing?"
"I'm taking care of the food, you imbecile! Can you not see why I'm sitting next to the oven? God, you really need to get your eyes checked!"
"Shut up!"
I could already see my classmates being influenced by the heat already. Or, maybe it was just Yamauchi being a nuisance that he was. I seriously need to think of a way to fix him.
We didn't send any group to scout the island that day. There was no need to do so, as we had already covered the whole northern island. I had the list of all the locations where the spot recognition devices were located. I was also able to locate class A's base camp where I even managed to cross out my suspicion regarding the names of the leaders. In short, the scouts weren't needed any longer. As a result, the number of food gatherer groups extended.
However, gathering and cooking food for a headcount of forty would eventually turn into a pain. We also have to keep in mind that the resources available on the island was limited. About a hundred and twenty-two people are inhabitants of this island for four more days [due to Sakayanagi, and thirty-three other students from class D being exempted from the exam]. So, the rate of finding food and resources would only decrease from this point on.
I'm sure there will come a time when we'll have to buy food using our points. It would also be a welcome change to our unsatisfied bellies. Should we do that from tomorrow, or the day after?
But for the current situation...
"Hey! Why don't we take a break and go swim in the river?" Karuizawa suggested.
"Yeah, this heat is too much for me! I feel like I'm gonna die!" Satou remarked.
"Oh, you said it!" Onizuka crowed.
One by one the students began to form a mutual agreement. It was to be expected. The weather was hot and unbearable. A little dive in the river would be enough to take a whole day's sweat and fatigue away.
....
Or, get new one's I guess? Depending on how bad their swimming posture is.
"Then we should take turns to swim. The river isn't big enough to hold forty of us. And even if it was, the water will only get dirty." Hirata made a logical conclusion.
"We'll have to go in groups then. While one group swims, the other's would have to look after the camp. That way, there'll be an equilibrium." I replied.
