You were driving around the south with your two friends, the Texas heat beating against the windows of the van. You were sat in the back where all the funky patterned pillows were, reading a book. Your friend Jamie was flirting with Aaron, her boyfriend. You were always a third wheel since Aaron came along. You never understood what she saw in him. Sure he had a nice car and some spare cash but that's about it, he was a stuck up guy. He always got upset like a three year old when he didn't get what he wanted. The sad thing is, Jamie fell for his bullshit. Every.  Damn. Time. You were invited on this road trip by Jamie. At first you said no but she was so goddamn persistent with it that you just had to say yes. You honestly were glad you went on the trip, getting away from your shitty home life wasn't at all bad. The only bad thing you had to deal with in the about of sloppy make out sessions Jamie and Aaron had. The song 'California Dreamin' was playing through the radio, and loud. The music made the whole van shake, although you did't mind. As long as you had your book you were alright.

The van eventually stopped. As you weren't really paying attention to where all you were going, this made you look up from your book shooting a confused look to Jamie. "Gas station. C'mon." Jamie said as she grabbed your hand and brought you out with her. You gave her a sigh of annoyance in return. "Oh don't be such a child." Jamie giggled while walking to the front doors of the station as Aaron filled up the van with gas. You rolled your eyes "Maybe say that to your crybaby boyfriend." you muttered under your breath "What was that?" Jamie questioned. "Nothin'" you said as you followed Jamie into the station. Inside the station a loud fan could be heard, as well as a few bikers at a little table in the corner by a jukebox. The Jukebox played some random song very quietly. One of the bikers eyed you up and down, his gaze lingering on the shorts you were wearing. Sure they did show off a little bit of your ass, but that sure as hell didn't give him the right to look. You decided to ignore him. Jamie was looking at all the small snacks they had here as you walked over to the magazines that were displayed on the front counter. While looking at the options you made eye contact with an old lady, giving her a small smile as you continued looking. "If you're looking' for something good." the old lady spoke, her thick southern accent rolled off of her lips like honey as she handed you a fashion magazine from the early sixties "Thank you. Those other ones weren't too interesting." you smiled slightly, grabbing the magazine gently while looking down at it. "What do I owe you?" you questioned as you looked back up "Oh dear, for being so nice it's free." she gave you a sweet smile while her head tilted slightly. "Are you sure?" you asked her in disbelief, your mouth staying a bit open "Yes, dear." the old lady said. You thanked her once again then turned back to Jamie. You didn't see Jamie however. Your brows furrowed in concern until you saw her come out of the bathroom. You sighed out of relief. "Goddamnit Jamie, you almost scared me half to death!" you exclaimed as you grabbed her arm and drug her out of the store.

You and Jamie jumped in the van. "What the hell took y'all so long?" Aaron sent you both an angry glare. You just rolled your eyes as you leaned back into the pillows. You knew he was gonna start either yelling at Jamie or you, most likely you since he just loved to blame you for everything. "Had to use the bathroom." Jamie said meekly as she tucked her dark long hair behind her ear "Oh yeah?" Aaron said with his brows furrowed and a scowl on his face, he quickly shot his harsh glare your way. He was about to say something but was cut off by Jamie "Don't." she said sternly, looking Aaron dead in the eye. Aaron just shook his head slightly with the scowl still sitting on his face as he started up the van, then driving away from the gas station. The three of you drove for a while until Aaron saw an old farm house. The two hopped out of their seats as you just looked at them with confusion. "We'll be back, Aaron just wants to check it for a bit." Jamie reassured you with a cheeky smile. You knew damn well they weren't just checking it out. You nodded as you did a little salute with your two fingers, you just wanted to stay in the van.

You put your book down as you realized the sun was starting to set. You looked at the watch that was hanging from the rear-view mirror, your eyes widened as you saw the time. It was six thirty four! You being very concerned hopped out of the van, the still ho air touching your skin. It was deathly quiet out, it scared you. You walked towards the front doors slowly, taking in your surroundings as you did. Once you got to the door you pushed it open slightly, a creaking sound coming from the rusted hinges. "Jamie." you whispered quickly, no response "Jamie." you spoke louder. When Jamie didn't answer you the second time you walked into the house, the dark walls engulfing you.
