I woke up to Steven knocking on the Temple door, the sound echoing through my room. It's a simple room, decorated with an orange bed, a small hallway to the Crystal Heart, and a gaming computer powered by the Temple itself. I love RPGs, since they're mostly story and puzzle-based. I used to play some with Steven when he was younger, and he must have taken after me a bit. He has a gaming system of his own, and he usually plays RPGs as well, with the occasional fighting game.
I hear him call, "Pearl! Garnet! Amethyst! Citrine! Is anyone home?!"
My door opens at I get close to it, sliding to the side like a barn door to reveal the inside of the house.
I yawn as I ask, "Steven? What's up, little dude?"
Steven gasps, saying, "Oh! I didn't know anyone was home. I made breakfast! Want some?"
I say, "Sounds great, but I wanted to make some progress on my game. I'll probably be in my room all day. Sorry, Steve-o."
Steven frowns, asking, "Can't you at least try it? I made too many waffles."
I smile, ruffling his hair.
I say, "Alright, I'll try a bit. I don't wanna eat all of it on you if you want to share with the others."
I sit down at the kitchen table, and Steven slides a syrup soaked waffle onto a separate plate for me, then immediately goes to the microwave, popping some popcorn to put on the waffles, then sprays a mountain of whipped cream on top of the pile and a small mound on my waffle.
I say, "If you're going that far, I know what else you could add."
Steven smiles, and I grab some strawberries from the fridge, slicing off the green hulls on top. Steven grabs one, carefully placing it on top of the pile of waffles. I slice up another strawberry into bite sized pieces and sprinkle it on my plate before taking a bite.
Steven exclaims, "It's perfect!" He flops onto the table next to his breakfast, saying, "That thing's too good for me to eat alone."
I say, "I helped make it, so I guess you could say it's a..."
Steven catches on, smiling wide as we both continue in unison, "Together breakfast!"
Suddenly, the warp pad activated, startling Steven as I kept eating my waffle. Garnet appears from the warp stream, carrying a scroll in her hand. She must have left on a solo mission while I slept, though that's not unusual.
Steven grabs his stack and walks over to her, exclaiming, "Ah, Garnet, perfect! Check it out! It's not exactly healthy, but it's in a stack, so I guess you could say it's a... balanced breakfast?"
He strains a smile, and I jokingly boo him.
Garnet doesn't react, and Steven continues, "You know, like Citrine and I made breakfast. I thought we could eat together. Like... Like best buds!"
Garnet says, "I can't stay. There's business to attend to inside the Temple."
She shines her gems at the Temple gate, opening her door.
Steven asks, "Aw, business? Like what?"
He sets the waffle stack back on the table as Garnet says, "I have to burn this."
She unfurls the scroll, revealing Gem Glyph I can't read from where I'm seated, ominous whispers eminating from the scroll.
Steven exclaims, "Cool!"
He takes a photo of the scroll, but Garnet snatches his phone away, saying, "I have to burn this, too."
She leaves onto the Temple, her door closing behind her.
