In a world where the sun's warmth no longer provided comfort, Lucas found himself thrust into a nightmare that he could never have imagined. With his tousled blond hair and boyish charm, he had once been an ordinary teenager, navigating the challenges of high school, dreaming of a future full of possibilities.
The day it all began was etched into his memory—a day that started like any other, with the sun rising over the horizon and the promise of a new day ahead. Lucas was at school, his mind occupied with thoughts of exams, friends, and weekend plans. As he chatted with his friends between classes, little did he know that their lives were about to change forever.
It was during the lunch break that chaos erupted. The first signs of the outbreak were swift and brutal, catching everyone off guard. Panic spread like wildfire as news of a strange illness sweeping across the city reached their ears. Lucas and his friends watched in shock as the peaceful campus turned into a scene of chaos and terror. Students and teachers alike were fleeing, screams filling the air as the unthinkable became a horrifying reality.
In the midst of the panic, Lucas's survival instincts kicked in. Grabbing his backpack, he joined the stampede of students rushing for the exit. Amidst the confusion and fear, he spotted his best friend, Sarah, her hazel eyes wide with shock. Without a second thought, he reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her along as they made a desperate escape from the school.
Outside, the once familiar streets had transformed into a nightmarish battleground. People were running, vehicles were abandoned, and the sound of sirens and distant screams painted a grim picture of the world's descent into chaos. Lucas and Sarah ran until their legs ached, their hearts pounding as they tried to find safety.
Lucas and Sarah struggled to survive in a world that had only been overrun by the undead for a few days. They scrounged for food, found shelter in abandoned buildings, and learned to trust no one but each other. Lucas's once carefree spirit had been replaced by a steely determination to protect Sarah and himself from the relentless threat that now defined their existence.
Lucas's sunny blond hair became matted and dirty, his innocent features marred by the harsh reality of their circumstances. He fought zombies, made difficult choices, and faced the harsh realities of a world stripped of its humanity.
Amid the turmoil, Lucas and Sarah's bond grew stronger. Their shared experiences forged a connection that went beyond friendship, anchoring them in a world where everything they had known had crumbled. They relied on each other for strength, support, and companionship—a glimmer of light in a world shrouded in darkness.
However this one memory played out like a painful movie in Lucas's mind. He saw Sarah's determined face as she planned to venture out in search of supplies, her voice filled with hope that they could finally secure enough food to last them a while. He remembered the way she had brushed her fingers against his cheek before leaving, a simple gesture that held a world of unspoken emotions.
Hours turned into an agonizing wait, each passing minute fueling Lucas's growing unease. He tried to distract himself, tried to keep his mind from wandering into the darkest corners of possibility. But as the sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of orange and red, dread settled in his chest like a heavy stone.
And then he heard it—the sound that still haunted his nightmares—the distant, guttural growls of the undead. He rushed to the window, his heart racing as he scanned the desolate street below. And there she was, his beloved Sarah, surrounded by a horde of hungry zombies.
In that moment, the weight of the apocalypse bore down on him with an unbearable intensity. He was alone, utterly and irreversibly alone, left to navigate this desolate world without the one person who had meant everything to him. And as he wept, his tears mingling with the dust that coated the floor, he vowed to honor her memory, to keep fighting, and to ensure that her sacrifice was not in vain. And there he stood, begging for a chance.
"I've been on my own, and I'm running out of supplies. I saw you two and thought... maybe you could lend a hand?"
Benny remained skeptical, his posture tense as he questioned the newcomer's intentions. "Why should we trust you?" he inquired, his voice tinged with suspicion.
With sincerity in his eyes, Lucas hastily replied, "I don't have much to prove it, but I can show you what little I've got." Slowly, he lowered his hands and reached for the bag slung over his shoulder. Gently unzipping it, he revealed meager supplies—an empty water bottle, a few crumbs of food, and some worn-out clothes.
"I've been scavenging, but it's slim pickings out there," Lucas explained, his voice earnest. "I heard whispers about a safe haven at the stadium. I just need a chance."
Marta's grip on her gun remained unrelenting, her gaze fixed on Lucas as she weighed his words. With a hint of caution, she took a step closer, her weapon no longer aimed directly at him.
"Show us your bag," she instructed, her voice firm and aggressive.
Lucas obeyed, his hands shaking slightly as he revealed the meager contents of his bag. His eyes held a mixture of gratitude and fear, aware that his survival now hinged on their decision. Benny stepped forward, his skepticism still present but mingled with compassion. "We're headed to the stadium ourselves," he stated, his voice measured. "But you'll follow our lead, no exceptions."
A glimmer of hope returned to Lucas's eyes as he nodded eagerly. "Absolutely, I understand. I'll do whatever you say. I just... I can't make it alone anymore." Marta exchanged a glance with Benny, the unspoken understanding between them palpable. Trust was a rare commodity in this world, but sometimes, the right alliances could mean the difference between life and death. Though cautious, Benny saw an opportunity to extend a helping hand, to offer a lifeline to someone in need.
Marta, on the other hand, hesitated, her grip on her gun slowly relaxing, but the skepticism in her eyes remained. She didn't want to put their safety at risk for a stranger. However, as she looked at Lucas's desperate face, a battle raged within her—a battle between her instincts for self-preservation and her empathy for another survivor.
Benny's gaze met Marta's, and he offered her a small nod—a gesture of understanding and unity. He recognized the internal conflict she faced, but he believed in extending compassion whenever possible.
"I don't know" Marta hesitated. "We don't even know him, I don't trust him, I'm sorry" Marta shook her head.
"Marta, he has no one. Are you really gonna leave him to die?" Benny answered skeptically.
She rushed towards the boy as he cowarded under her glare. "One wrong move blondie and I'll make sure the hollows don't get you. I will!"
The blond boy was confused to say the least, but he couldn't ask anymore questions before the girl, that he learned was Marta, started walking, now checking every corner. As he turned towards the boy he got his bag throwed back to him. "Come on! Pick up the pace"
As he rushed towards he asked "Who are you? I mean, what's your name?". The boy turned towards him while pushing his glasses back onto his nose. "I'm Benny but you can call me Wender if you'd like."
Wender... little did they know that that name was gonna be a mark in that new world. Wender and Ace. Whatever... back to the conversation, "Wender? Why Wender? And what the fuck are hollows? And what is her problem?" He rushed.
Benny slighty pushed himself back and said "You ask a lot of questions don't you? But well, Wender was my nickname, hollows are our name to the zombies and there is nothing wrong with her." He finished with a slight glare.
The boy once more cowered "I didn't mean to offend any of you." Benny sighed "I know, it's just we've been through a lot, she has been through a lot. We just want to get to our families."
Lucas turned away from the boy and looked at his feet and muttered "Trust me, I've been through a lot too..."
