The evening at the camp was filled with an unusual sense of calm and camaraderie. The Unseens, now more integrated with the military camp, were starting to relax and trust the environment a bit more. However, the past months had taught them never to let their guard down completely.
As the group sat around the campfire, enjoying the warmth and the semblance of normalcy, a military soldier named Corporal Harris approached Daniel. Harris, a tall, imposing figure with a perpetually stern expression, seemed to have taken issue with the presence of the Unseens in the camp.
"You lot have no place here," Harris growled, his eyes narrowing at Daniel. "You're just a bunch of strays, tagging along and taking up resources."
Daniel, who had been quietly tending to the fire, looked up sharply. "We pulled our weight today. We helped secure that nest. We're not just taking up space."
Harris sneered, stepping closer. "You think one successful mission makes you part of this? You don't belong here. We've got more than enough people here."
Benny, hearing the raised voices, stood up from his spot beside Lucas, his protective instincts kicking in. "Hey, back off. We've done more than enough to earn our place. If it wasn't for us, the camp could be in severe danger"
Lucas, usually the peacekeeper, tried to intervene. "Come on, man. We're all in this together. There's no need for this."
Harris shoved Lucas aside, his anger flaring. "Stay out of this, kid. This is between me and him. And I'm talking to him because he's the older of you bunch. You're just kids. Kids that have no business being here"
Jessica, who had been sitting near Marta, saw the confrontation escalating and nudged Marta, her expression worried. Marta, always ready to step up, got to her feet and moved toward the growing conflict.
"Is there a problem here?" Marta's voice was calm but firm, her eyes locking onto Harris.
Harris didn't back down. "Yeah, there's a problem. Your group thinks they can just waltz in here and act like they belong."
Marta took a step closer, her posture aggressive. "We earned our place here. We helped your people today. You should be thanking us, not picking fights."
The tension was palpable, the rest of the camp watching in silence as the confrontation unfolded. Benny, not one to back down, stepped forward, fists clenched. "You heard her. We earned our place. Back off."
Harris, now even more agitated, took a swing at Benny. Benny dodged, but the action set off a chain reaction. The Unseens, fiercely protective of each other, jumped into the fray.
Lucas tried to pull Benny back, but another soldier grabbed him, causing a scuffle to break out. Jessica moved to help Lucas, while Marta squared off with Harris, ready to defend her friends.
Daniel, caught in the middle, tried to calm the situation. "Everyone, stop! This isn't helping anyone!"
The commotion drew the attention of Captain Ramirez, who rushed over, his voice booming above the noise. "Enough! Stand down, all of you!"
The soldiers immediately stepped back, but the Unseens, still on edge, hesitated. Marta glared at Harris, her fists still clenched. "He started it," she spat, her voice trembling with anger.
Ramirez looked around, assessing the situation. "Corporal Harris, my tent. Now." His tone left no room for argument.
Harris glared at the Unseens one last time before storming off. Ramirez turned to the group, his expression softening slightly. "I apologize for Harris. He's... resistant to change."
