CHAPTER TWO: MEET THE FAMILY

I used to wonder why my parents look so much alike when they don't even share the same surname. When I couldn't think to any reasonable reason I decided to ask them instead.

Confused?

Let me clear that up.

My maternal and paternal grandmothers are twins. The are originally from Kano but Ammi's mother who we call Daada moved to Adamawa after her marriage to the then Waziri. Abi's mother, Hajiya Babba who is the older twin got married to Muhammad Turaki and stayed with the rest of the family in Kano.

Three years into her marriage, Daada gave birth to her first child. She named him after her late father, Muhammad(Baffa). She loved him with all her heart. After eight years, she gave birth to Sa'adatu(Ammi) on a beautific Friday evening. Ammi is the exact replica of Daada while Baffa has a mix of both his parents. She didn't have any other child after them and she was content.

On the other hand, Hajiya Babba has seven children. She gave birth to twins in the first year of her marriage, uncle Hassan and uncle Hussain. Two years later, she gave birth to uncle Yusuf and Muhammad (Abi) followed three years later. She decided to not give birth again so could focus on her four children. Mama Maryam came along, Muhammad was ten years old then. After some years when Maryam was eighteen, what she didn't expect was to give birth to twins again, Fatima(Ameera) and Hauwa(Sameera).

That alone explained everything.

Now let me introduce to you the sub family.

The Muhammad Ibrahim Waziris

Baffa is a businessman who lives in Adamawa with his family of five; himself, his wife (Aunty Maimuna) a talented chef, hamma Zayd who is on his way of becoming a businessman just like him,Hamma Khaleel, our very own footballer, and then the baby of the house Rabia, a 100L public health student in Baze university.

The Hassan Muhammad Turakis

Uncle Hassan is a civil engineer who lives in Kano with this family. He has two gorgeous wives. The first wife(Mama Maimuna) has four children; Ya Ibrahim, Ya Khalifa, Ya Zainab and Fadeela. Mama Rukayya(second wife) has three children; Ya Suraiya,Ya Mubarak and Aliya.

The Hussain Muhammad Turakis

Uncle Hussain is an ambassador. He lives in Dubai with his wife(Umma Badiyya) and their four children; Ya Asmau,Ya Hauwa,Ya Nafeesa and Usman Nurain.

The Yusuf Muhammad Turakis

Uncle Yusuf is a lawyer. He lives in Abuja with wife(Aunty Yusra) and their three children; Ya Batoul, Ya Muhibba and Maheer.

Muhammad Muhammad Turakis

Muhammad (Abi) is an architect, owner of Turaki construction. His first wife Hajiya Khadija passed away when Ya Aali was five. He later married Sa'adatu (Ammi) as suggested by Hajiya Babba and Daada. They fell in love along the way and Ya Adnan came three years later. He was just four when Ya Abdul was born. Ya Abdul and Ya Mukhtar have just two years between them. And last but not the least, Fatima Zara (me).

The Ibrahim Danganas

This is mama Maryam's family. She got married after her master's degree at the age of twenty five. She had Ya Saeed two years later. Ya Salma and Ya Safeena joined the family after five and three years respectively.

The twins Ameera and Sameera both getting married by the end of this year.

This is my family.
