"lynn!" he yelled again. she rolled her eyes, taking a book out of her locker.

"what?!" she shouted back. she looked him in the eyes, it was clear he was a bit startled. "look, it's clear that this isn't going to work out," she admitted, shrugging her shoulders. "i'll just..." she paused. "give you my old assignments, find you answers, and you can borrow my notes,"

"that's not going to work," he said, already imagining the answer from ms. stevens.

"well, it's going to have to," she said slamming her locker shut. the bell rang, dismissing the rest of the school. she shrugged and repeated the same thing that she's been thinking. "because i'm not doing it," she began to walk away, keeping her composure and trying not to look over her shoulder. she knew it was wrong to not help him out but how was she supposed to do it if she barely likes him?

in between all the students, chris' jaw tightened. "you owe me!" he threw out. she heard him and furrowed her eyebrows, shocked that he'd say such a thing. she stormed back over.

"i owe you?" she scoffed, laughing. "that's not how i remember things," she teased. "last time i checked, i was the one who got hurt. not you,"

"yeah. you owe me," he crossed his arms. "you want me to say it in another language?" he ignored her last comment.

"i don't think you can given that you need my help in every class," she smirked. most people who've witnessed their interesting banter believed that there has to be a point where they were kidding, however, between the two of them, they both knew they weren't.

"exactly," he sassed her, glaring his eyes and nodding his head as he spoke.

lynn couldn't help but roll her eyes once more at chris's stubbornness and exhaled deeply. the two of them had been engaged in this back-and-forth banter for as long as she could remember, but today, it seemed to have escalated to a whole new level, probably because of the time since they had last seen each other. she knew she couldn't let him walk away thinking he had the upper hand.

"fine, chris. you want my help so badly?" she said, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "here's the deal. i'll help you with your assignments and notes, but after, stay the fuck away from me,"

chris' curiosity was piqued, and he raised an eyebrow skeptically. "you think i chose you?" he squinted, annoyed.

lynn made her voice barely above a whisper. "you probably didn't. but we both know you need my help," she leaned in as she said he needs her and backed up to her own space at the conclusion of the sentence.

"so three hours a week?" he said after two beats of silence.

"two hours and you bring snacks," she said negotiated.

"bring snacks where?" he asked, assuming they were doing this at school.

"my place, duh," she shrugged, walking away. she left him with more to think about than expected. was this really going to be so bad?
