~Forget what we're told, Before we get too old, Show me a garden that's bursting into life~
A week later, I'm still sitting in the same chair next to Kalani's hospital bed.
I've been here practically twenty four hours a day since the accident. I've only left to change clothes, use the bathroom, and get food from the hospital cafeteria.
And for that one shower I had to take because I could smell myself.
"Hey Kalani. You have a week left before you need to wake up. The sooner you do, the better.
"Doctor Rogers told me today that you probably will never wake up from this little nap. He says that your brain is too damaged and that we should just pull the plug now to keep you from suffering any more than you already all. I don't believe him though. I know you better than he does, better than anyone does to be exact. I know that you're a fighter. You don't like to lose and this is one battle that you can't."
"I won't let him do anything to you so don't you worry. I know that you'll get up and be the same old Kalani that I know and love. So just take your time. Open your eyes so I can see those beautiful chocolate diamonds again. Whenever you're ready. I'm ready for you to wake up."
"I really miss you. My days just aren't the same without you being there. I miss the a awful scent of your paint as you work on the walls. You know, you still need to finish painting that garden. I sure as hell won't be able to so you better get up and get on it. I miss cuddling with you at night. I miss kissing you. I miss hearing your voice tell me to grow up. I just miss you Kalani. So you better not leave me alone here forever. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Goodnight." I lift the hand I'm holding to my lips and kiss it, hoping that somehow she'll be able to feel it.
