Chapter 14

"That can't be true, you are not my mother..." said Ravi, stunned.

"I am, I gave birth to you and your brothers", replied Leena, wiping off the tears that were running down her cheeks.

"You abandoned us", said Ravi.

"She didn't", said Rajiv, laying his hand on his shoulder. "It was a decision we took to make sure that you and your brothers remain safe".

"Then explain why you weren't in our lives", said Ravi accusingly.

"Come, lets sit down," said Rajiv and they sat down on the couch.

"It was because of an incident that took place 15 years back", said Leena.

15 years back on the night of the party

Rajiv quickly went into his room and took a bath and dressed up. It was the first time after marriage that Leena was confident about showing him to her colleagues. The months following her marriage, her uncle Sebastian had tracked him down and tried to attack him. From then onward, they did not tell anyone whom they worked with about their spouse. It has been a couple of years since they got any news about Sebastian. 

When Rajiv was putting the cufflinks Leena entered the room to do some final touch ups to her make up. Seeing her seductive figure, he grabbed her from behind and buried his face in her hair and whispered, "Is this party necessary? Let's stay in tonight. I will make love to you and we can eat some ice cream afterwards". His fingers traced her navel lightly sending shivers all over her.

Leena bit her lips and said, "That's our normal night, lets take a break from that and maybe your desire will increase a bit".

"Can you handle it if my desire increases for you?" he asked her, pulling her roughly to himself.

"Lets find out", she said tauntingly as she freed herself from his grasp and with a laugh, went out leaving him to calm himself down before heading out with her for the party.

Rajiv and Leena arrived at the party and just then Neha, Om Prakash's secretary came into the hall, she looked white with fear and announced, "I request everyone to please leave the premises".

She did not wait to answer anyone's questions and left. The music stopped and the air was filled with the confused talking of people.

Rajiv turned to Leena and said, "Lets leave, something is up". She nodded and they both left the party and took their car. While driving Rajiv recounted to her what happened in the evening before he came home.

"Something might be wrong, Om Prakash sir was really stressed out this past couple of days", she said.

Suddenly Rajiv's phone rang, it was Vikram Lohia. "Rajiv, come to Indraprastha Hospital, room no:351".

Confused, he agreed to it and drove to the hospital and he and Leena reached the room. A nurse was coming out of the room and Rajiv asked her.

"He has suffered a heart attack, so don't talk too much" he said to them and left.

Rajiv entered it, but Vikram, who was lying on the bed asked him, "Is that Leena outside? Doesn't she work for Om Prakash? Ask her to come in".

Rajiv brought her into the room. Vikram smiled at her, she was his college hostel roommate Mathew's daughter. Initially he had given Rajiv a job as a favor to her father and was later impressed by his talent.

"Listen Rajiv, something horrible has happened and unfortunately you have been caught in the cross-fire", said Vikram.

"What's the matter sir?" asked Rajiv.
