Chapter 9: A Lost Boy
For a while after all of this, Peter heard nothing of Captain Hook. He decided that he should leave Hook alone until his arm had healed. Peter figured that, that would take a while. He was also still a bit shaken up about the whole ordeal.
Peter was feeling lonely again. Although he loved Tinker Bell and the Fairies he realized that he needed human friends. The Indians were his friends, but they grew older and some soon decided that they were too old to play, and the others usually never wanted to play what he wanted, and Peter liked to be in control.
One day, while Peter was sitting carving something out of wood, Tinker Bell rushed to him shouting his name.
“What is it, Tink?” Peter jumped up.
Tink excitedly motioned for him to follow her.
He flew close behind Tinker Bell.
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll see,” Tink practically screamed.
Tinker Bell took Peter to the other Fairies. When they arrived, Peter saw a baby, a human baby. He walked to it and bent down. The baby smiled the moment it saw Peter’s face. He couldn’t help but smile back.
“Where’d you find it?”
“Him,” a Fairy interrupted.
“Him,” Peter repeated.
One of the older Fairies, named Camilla Pea answered, “He fell out of his pram, and his parents did not claim him, so we took him. He shall live here, in Neverland.”
Peter nodded.
“Peter.”
He looked up, “Yes?”
Camilla Pea continued, “We were wondering if you would be willing to take care of him?”
Peter’s heart thumped with joy and excitement, “Oh yes! Of course I will,” He picked up the baby, “Thank you!”
Camilla smiled, “No, thank you, Peter. You are very kind.”
Peter smiled sweetly at the babe. He had never held a baby before, but he held the child like he was his own.
Peter loved his new little friend, although, in Peter’s opinion, he didn’t do much. Peter took him to the Indians. They assisted him with food for the baby, and gave him advice for the babe’s care. Peter was very grateful for this since he had not the slightest idea what to do for a child.
That night as Peter slept with his new friend right beside him, the baby started crying. Peter jerked up,
“What? Oh hi,” he looked to the baby, picked him up, and cradled him, but he wouldn’t stop. Peter tried walking him around but he still did not stop screaming.
“What do you want?” Peter whined.
Camilla Pea flew to Peter to see what was wrong.
“Oh, Peter, why is he crying?”
“I don’t know,” Peter shouted. He was very concerned that his friend was so upset.
“Shouting isn’t going to help. Is he hungry?”
Peter ran to the bottle the Indians had given him, but the baby didn’t want it.
“No,” Peter cried.
“Hmm,” Camilla was deep in thought, “Oh I know!”
“What?” Peter screamed.
