"I still haven't  figured out how to sit across from you, and not be madly in love with everything you do."

-William C. Hannan

Luhan enjoyed two days in Jeju with his fiancé before heading back to Gangnam for Kyungsoo’s birthday (not until someone decided to bother him again). As soon as they got back, Luhan reached out to his friends. The last time they were together, things ended on a sour note, and he didn't want his whole vacation to be clouded by that. Along with thinking about his own choices, especially the ones involving his supposed ex-boyfriend, the tension with his friends was also making his chest weigh heavily. He couldn’t sleep well that Chanyeol needs to stay late at night, cuddling and humming lullabies just to make him sleep. Plus, it is Kyungsoo's special day. Luhan rarely got to celebrate birthdays and other events with them, since he had already started a new life in the US.

When he opened the messages that his friends sent to him coupled with a few missed calls, he couldn’t hold back his tears. Kyungsoo and Jongin’s wedding is scheduled between the couple’s birthdays which means tomorrow and Luhan clearly not contributing positively to the said event. He should have just ignored Sehun, ignore his advances, his provocations, ignore him entirely. Yet, it feels like he was born in this world to be bothered and entangled with Sehun for eternity.

The doe gritted his teeth. That brute! He is also the reason why Shun is ignoring him since yesterday! Luhan unintentionally hung up on him when Sehun appeared out of nowhere and now he was paying the price with his little one’s silent treatment. Shun really disliked being hung up on, and Luhan was feeling the weight of it. He couldn’t help but feel a pang of frustration. Sometimes, it’s a curse that his little Sunshine got so much from his other father.

‘That’s what you want, right?’ A mocking voice echoed on his head.

‘Thank you for that wonderful reminder.’ Luhan replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm. It is possibly the result of deprivation from his own child that he was having conversations with himself.

“Hey, Luhan! Are you okay? Is everything alright between you and Chanyeol?” Minseok snapped him out of his thoughts.

No, everything is not fine! How could he when his little boy is not talking to him? If only he could spill his troubles to them. But he just couldn’t tell them, ‘Oh, it’s just that my son won’t talk to me and now I’m losing my mind. Not to mention that the other father of my son is driving me nuts.’ Yeah, that was definitely not an option.

“Are you still upset?” Kyungsoo asked softly.

“What? Oh no, Soo. I’m just a bit tired from the trip,” Luhan smiled, trying to hide his turmoil. He suddenly remembered the souvenirs he had brought back from Jeju, and the living room filled with Minseok’s excited squeal and Kyungsoo’s loud kiss on his cheek.

“Hey! What about me, Lu? Did you forget our 12 years of friendship?” Jongdae exclaimed dramatically as he took a seat beside Minseok.

“You’re not the birthday boy, Dae,” Luhan chuckled, as Jongdae jokingly accused him of being a fake friend and pretended to cry on Minseok’s shoulder. Jongdae was always one for theatrics. He handed Jongdae the paper bag with the souvenirs, and Jongdae’s grin widened as if he had won the lottery.

Jongin, who had just entered the scene, settled down beside his future husband. There were two more paper bags left, and Luhan handed one to Jongin. Jongin muttered a ‘thank you’ at him then proceeded to open the bag. Luhan is not that naïve not to feel the silent resentment that Jongin was subtly directing at him. He knew the reason and intended to talk to Jongin before he returned to the US.
