I got my best friend back, now I had to get my boyfriend back. I still wasn't sure if I could trust him, but I knew that it was only fair if I heard what he had to say. So I began to look for him.

In Math class, he sits behind me on the next row, so it was too hard to get his attention. I tried to pass notes, but Jamie read the note and told the teacher on me. She was such a tattle tale! Since I couldn't get his attention in Math class, I would have to try after class or at lunch. When class ended, he glanced at me and then left before I could talk to him.

At lunch, I got too nervous to talk to him in front of all his friends. I wanted to talk to Jake alone, I just couldn't decide when or where!

In Science, he left for a doctor's appointment and I was lab partners with Gabe. I decided then, that I would have to call him after school.

When I got home, I couldn't find my phone! It wasn't on my dresser where I thought I had left it. I looked on my desk, my bed, and even my trash can in case it fell, but my cell phone was nowhere to be found! I was about to lose my mind, when my mom walked in with my phone.

My mom asked, "Are you looking for this?"

"Yes! Where did you find it? I have been looking all over for that!" I exclaimed.

"It was on the kitchen counter and it will stay there until you do something important for me," she said.

"What? I will do anything," I replied.

She smile, then said, "If you wash my car for me, I will give you your phone back."

"Okay, I will," I replied.

"The soap and sponge's are in the garage, but you have to do good to get your phone back," she explained.

I then went to the garage to get what I needed and then walked outside where the car was to get the hose. I was putting water in my bucket when I noticed someone familiar riding by on their bike. It was Jake! I decided that then might be my chance to talk to him.

"Jake! I need to talk to you!" I exclaimed.

"I thought you didn't want to talk to me anymore," he replied, riding away.

After that, I finished washing the car and then went inside to change into new clothes. When I came inside, my mom said that she had to see what I did before I got my phone back. She was very pleased with the work I did, so she let me have my cell phone back! I was so happy, but new I had a lot to say and that I better call him.

I dialed his number quickly and waited for him to pick up, but he never did. I tried again, but he just rejected my call! I couldn't believe that HE was avoiding ME after all this! I just wanted to hear from him and apologize.

The next day, I decided to ask Cameron why Jake wasn't talking to me or answering my calls at lunch. Before he sat down with his friends, I asked him if he and I could talk and I could see all of his friends with smirks. One even said, "You do know he has a girlfriend, right?" then they all burst out laughing.

I sat with him at another table and asked, "Tell me. Why is he not answering my calls?"

"You really don't know?" Cameron asked with a shocked expression.

I had no idea what he was talking about, so I replied, "No, what happened?"

He took a deep breath and started, "A lot has happened since you two broke up. The next day, a girl sitting next to you passed him a note that asked if he wanted to go out and he tried to pass one back saying 'no', but you wouldn't hand it to her. At lunch, she sat next to you and he wanted to tell her that he didn't want to go out, but when you left, he didn't want to be alone with her. In science class, he tried to explain what happened that night you saw him under the bleachers with his ex-girlfriend, but you wouldn't listen and the only one who would listen was that girl, so he decided to go on a date with her and ever since, they have been together."

Everything that has happened had a different meaning now. I tried to take it all in, but I couldn't remember anyone sitting with me on that day, except Rachel. Rachel only sat with me because she felt bad that no one else wanted to sit with me. We don't talk much, but she is the kind of person to be nice to everyone. The only thing is that she isn't that popular, so no one wants to be seen with her.

"Then what really happened the night under the bleachers if it wasn't what I thought it was?" I asked.

"Well, he was on his way to the concession stand, taking a short cut under the bleachers instead of going around them and his ex-girlfriend was there. She was jealous of the two of you and when she saw you coming, SHE kissed HIM. It may have looked like he was cheating on you, but it wasn't his fault, it was all her!" he explained.

"Oh! I had no idea!" I exclaimed.

"Well, it's too late for apologies now," he replied.

"I know, I wish I could apologize and he could be mine again," I replied, sadly.

"Me, too," he agreed. "He is too good for her."

"I know who would even go out with her in the first place?" I asked.

"I guess he was just desperate after losing you. I heard she's really nice, though," Cameron replied.

"This is just my luck!" I exclaimed, glumly.

"Do you remember how they were saying that I have a girlfriend?" he asked, randomly.

I answered, "Yeah, why?"

"It's not true; she broke up with me and I just haven't got the nerve to tell them, yet," he explained.

I wondered why he brought that up, but replied, "Oh, I'm sorry for you."

"Never mind that, I have to go," Cameron said awkwardly.

I was confused on why he told me about not having a girlfriend. Was he trying to ask me out? I wondered. This puzzled me, but I felt a little better now that I knew what really happened.

The next day in the hall, I saw Jake, looking upset and yelling, Rachel, upset and crying, and Cameron, standing there, looking as if he felt awkward about whatever they were arguing about.

I motioned for Cameron to come over to where I was from across the hallway. When he got close to me, I asked, "What are they fighting about?"

He smiled and replied, "I don't know, but it's serious, so if you want, you might get to go out with him again."

"I always see him in a fight with whoever he dates. His relationships don't even last long," I stated.

"Yeah," he agreed, "I see that, too."

I wondered out loud, "Why do you think that is?"

"I don't know, maybe he can't find the right girl," Cameron suggested.

Jake yelled, "WE ARE OVER!!" and left Rachel there, in tears.

I walked over to talk to Rachel, "Hey, Rachel, what was all that for?"

Rachel replied in between tears, "I'm not even sure."

"I feel bad about the way he yelled at you. Just watching made me feel you're pain," I tried to comfort her.

She started to cry harder, so I changed the subject. We talked about different things and I learned that we have a lot in common. I don't know why I never hang out with her; she is the nicest girl on earth and we have a lot in common!

I had finally figured out that Jake was a jerk, but I was somehow still in love with him. I didn't know why. I told myself many times that I should just get over him, but I couldn't. I never did get over him; I just kept hoping that we might get back together. Now that he broke up with Rachel, he was left single and I was left with a chance. I really wanted him back.
