On the day before Rose's 30th birthday, she finds herself working in the control room of one of her office's recording studios with her training mentor, Onyankapon. The place is completely empty save for the two of them and they both take time to go over notes and review the past few recording sessions Rose has worked on.

"Ahh, I see you supervised Dutch's last session," Onyankapon chuckles before frowning a little, "Oh? He only recorded two songs and left at 11?"

"Yeah, he and his friends were really rowdy that night. I would've pushed for a longer session, but I was having a rough day," Rose explains, an apologetic smile creeping across her bespectacled face.

Onyankapon smiles and gives her a reassuring nod. "Yeah, some artists get too big in the head with their egos, bring in entourages who get rowdy and disrupt the flow, unfortunately. Maybe we can come up with something to light a fire under his ass, so he commits to recording more and partying less during his time with us."

"Yeah, let's," Rose nods in agreement at that before turning back towards her notes. "Oh, before I forget; Lord Tengen wants me to shadow Porco while he scouts at next week's Battle of the Bands competition."

"Oh?" Onyankapon raises his eyebrow, gazing through his own notes before looking up at Rose with a look of concern. He's well aware of the toxicity between the two estranged spouses, hell the whole office is. "Why did he ask for that?"

Rose shrugs in resignation, "I don't know, he said I'm good eye candy to incentivize bands to join but I don't think that's really it. I don't know, I want to say it's because it'll make me a better music producer but I'm more of the opinion that Tengen just really likes stirring the pot."

Onyankapon chuckles, "Yeah, especially when it comes to you and Porco."

Rose shakes her head at the utter pettiness of it all; she really can't read her boss sometimes. One minute, he's shamelessly flirting with her, kissing her on the cheek when he can, the next he's shoving her and Porco together, knowing the two will butt heads and spar.

"Yeah, I really don't know but I guess it's a direct order from him, so I have to follow it. What do you think?"

Her mentor furrows his brows in contemplation, leaning back in his swivel chair. "Hmm, I suppose it will be part of your job once you join the A&R department. You'll scout for smaller acts since you'll be starting at the bottom. I can't really show you how to scout since I don't do it anymore, what with my seniority..."

Rose nods in agreement, "So it's a good idea to go then?"

"Mmhmm, just go. Watch what Porco does, and make sure he keeps his hands to himself."

She laughs at that, "Ahh don't worry. I can handle Porco, I just have to always make sure handling him doesn't mean strangling him."

Onyankapon busts out laughing at that. "Ahh, there you go. Let's get back to these notes." He shuffles them on the desk before falling quiet again for a moment. "Hey... how are things with you and the boss, anyways?"

Rose feels a sudden tremor in her gut and instinctually raises her eyebrows, "They're fine. Why do you ask?"

Not really noticing the sudden change in her demeanour as he keeps flipping through papers, Onyankapon shrugs, "Ahh, just... you know, sometimes he seems a little inappropriate with you."

She flushes and begins fidgeting with the cuffs of her shirt absentmindedly. "He's just... a multi-millionaire who likes playing with his chess pieces when he's bored at work. It's fine."

Onyankapon looks up at her, his eyes expressively sympathetic, "Are you sure? Cause if he ever gets to be too forward or too much, you can come talk to me..."
