Chapter 08: Meeting the Demon

Rose's breath hitches as she stops dead in her tracks, recognizing Eren Jaeger by his stature and that instantly recognizable man-bun. She exclaims in surprise before she can stop herself, to her instant regret. Eren senses someone's eyes on him, and he breaks away from the blonde to turn in Rose's direction, his eyes widening slowly at the sight of the redhead in purple staring his way. Rose freezes and softly curses under her breath; she can't exactly take off in a run now that he's seen her.

Eren stares her up and down suspiciously, a glazed-over look to his eyes that could be from drugs, alcohol, or sucking face... or all three. He clearly doesn't recognize Rose. The blonde looks at her through suspicious narrowed eyes, clearly annoyed at her intrusion; not that Rose can blame her.

The flustered redhead clears her throat awkwardly before speaking. "I'm sorry, I thought you were someone I knew," she mutters as she quickly spins on her heels to keep walking.

"Hold up!" Eren calls out in his lower voice, causing Rose to once more freeze in her tracks. She sighs and turns to look at him again, raising an eyebrow as Eren looks her over more intently and through the fog, he finally recognizes her. "Ohhh, heyyy, you were at the bonfire, right?" he smiles wide.

Rose nods meekly and rub her arm, "And Starbucks as well..."

"Ahh yeah, I remember you," he says as he breaks away from the blonde, much to her irritation. He stuffs his hands in his pockets as he steps closer to Rose. "You're uhhhh..." he searches his brain for a few moments, "I wanna say Yuri? Yurio... something like that?"

Rose slowly shakes her head, smiling at his attempts to place her name. "Mmm no, you must have me confused with someone else. I'm Rose... Rose Galliard."

Eren grins and holds out his hand, "Eren Jaeger, nice to finally meet you, Rose Galliard."

Rose softly eyes his hand, giving him a coy smile as she reaches out to shake it. His thumb brushes hers and she doesn't even withdraw, for some reason she finds she can't. They both hold each other's gaze for a moment, taking in the vibrance of each other's eyes, the softness of their smiles.

"A-hem!" Eren's blonde companion clears her throat and the two snap out of whatever trance they've been in. Rose sheepishly withdraws her hand and tucks a red curled strand behind her ear.

Eren's blonde huffs and crosses her arms. Rose looks over at her apologetically, but she just glares back. "Sorry, I—I really didn't mean to interrupt you two; I just wasn't sure if it was you. Have a good night" Rose says as she quickly turns to walk away but Eren acts fast.

"Hey, how was the latte?"

Rose turns back to him and raises a slow eyebrow. "The latte?"

"Yeah, you know? The latte me and my buddy bought you a few weeks ago?" Eren says as a teasing smirk begins to form on his face. "What? That kinda thing happen so often, it's so easy for you to forget?"

She laughs at that, kicking herself for sounding so dumb. "Right, yes I remember the latte. The latte was very good, thank you."

"And yet you didn't come say hi to us on the beach, thought we'd get some kind of acknowledgment out of you after that," It's his turn to raise an eyebrow at her. "Hell, Reiner and I even came to chat with you, and you took off."

Rose's cheeks flush in embarrassment as she turns back to fully face him again, nodding in acknowledgment. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that. My girlfriend needed to get home; it was pretty late for us."

Rose finds herself looking into his eyes, completely transfixed by how intensely green they are. It's amazing how vibrant they look; so green, so verdantly vibrant as if they're glowing. She's at once taken aback with how they always manage to hold her gaze in an almost otherworldly way. He's staring in her eyes as well, taking in how vibrantly blue they are like swirling whirlpools that unlock into vast clear oceans. He suddenly remembers himself, blinking as he smirks once more.
