A/N: Alpha & Omega is a movie made by Fox, but I was inspired today! Takes place just after the first movie.

I sighed as I waited by the stream that separated the Western and Eastern packs. I had been sent by my pack, the northern wolves, to establish peace with both packs. I was supposed to be meeting up with my betrothed and we were going to meet the packs together. He was from the Southern pack.
I barely knew him. He apparently came from a long line of alphas and my family was pushing for the marriage, but I just couldn't bring myself to like him. I had only met Lane recently and made it clear that I didn't want to marry him.
I snapped out of my thoughts as Lane padded over to me. "It's nice to see you again." I sighed. "Let's get moving Lane. We're going to be late." We both ran through the trees for a while before slowing to a walk as we reached the tree line. We walked into a clearing that turned into a valley. Wolves stood on either side, watching intently.
Standing in the middle of it all were the alphas of both packs. We approached and bowed our heads in respect. I spoke. "Alpha Winston, Alpha Tony. Thank you for allowing us to visit. I'm (Y/n) and this is Lane." Alpha Winston spoke. "Yes. It's been a long time since we've seen a northern or southern wolf." Alpha Tony looked at Lane. "Are you two betrothed?"
Lane nodded. "Yes. Our packs want to unite." Alpha Tony chuckled. "Ah, that's too bad. I think my son Garth would've taken quite a liking to (Y/n). His mate ended up leaving him recently." His gaze moved to a red wolf nearby. He was quite handsome.
I took a breath. "I see. I couldn't imagine leaving my mate. With our packs, the mate you choose is the one you mate with for life."
...
After that, we were shown around the lands and given a den to stay in for the time that we would be here. Lane decided to go talk with some alphas and I took the opportunity to sneak away. My paws thudded on the ground as I ran through the trees. I eventually came to a stop when the trees thinned out.
I plopped down on a moss covered rock slab and closed my eyes. I treasured moments like this when I could be alone. Unfortunately, that ended when I heard paws thudding through the dirt and stop nearby. I opened my eyes and sat up. I saw the same red wolf from before. I smiled at him. "You're Garth, right?" He nodded. "Yeah. And you're (Y/n)?" I walked over to him. "That's me."
He tilted his head, his ears twitching. "Where's your mate, uh, Lane?" I scoffed. "He's not my mate yet. He's talking with the other alphas. Your father told me about what happened with your mate. I'm sorry to hear it." He sighed. "Don't be. Sometimes things just don't work out."
I stretched, leaning forward. "If it makes you feel any better, I don't want to marry Lane. He's not for me." We started walking together through the trees. Garth looked at me. "So your pack doesn't follow the rule about alphas and omegas?" I rolled my eyes. "Never did. Both of my parents were omegas. And even the southern pack didn't follow the rule either."
I continued. "But I want to find a mate that I truly love. I don't want something arranged like I have with Lane. I want to be..." Garth spoke up. "Free?" I nodded. "Yeah. Free..." I nudged his side, feeling playful. "Catch me if you can!" I ran off into the trees, hearing Garth pounding on the dirt behind me. I weaved through the trees and jumped over fallen logs.
As I jumped over the last log, Garth tackled me and we rolled down the hill. As we came to a stop, we turned to face each other, our noses touching. We both quickly pulled away and stood. That's when I heard a loud growl.
A large bear stood 5 feet front of us. It took notice of us and bared it's teeth. Garth got in front of me, snarling and snapping at the bear. The bear, deciding we weren't worth it, turned and padded away into the trees. Garth looked at me. "Are you alright?" I nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine."
We continued on walking until we came across a small flower patch. Garth bent down and bit a pink rose from it's stalk and placed it in my fur by my ear. "A beautiful flower for a beautiful omega." My fur bristled in embarrassment. "T-Thank you."
The sun started to set and I looked at Garth. "I should be getting back. Lane will throw a fit if I'm not back before dark." Garth spoke. "Can I see you again? Tomorrow?" I smiled. "Of course. Meet me at the place we met today, in the morning. Good night, Garth."
I turned and made my way towards the den I shared with Lane. When I got inside, he was pacing the floor, the clicks of his claws echoing in the den. He looked up at me, his ears peeking up. "Where have you been? You've been gone for hours!" I huffed. "I went on a walk. I need time to myself you know." His gaze went to the flower in my hair. "Who gave you that?"
I looked at him. "That's none of your concern." He lunged forward, his teeth sinking into the flower and pulling it from my fur. He dropped the flower on the floor, leaving it completely ruined. "We are soon-to-be mates and I will not have you parading around with random males."
I walked away from him and curled up in a corner of the cave. I heard Lane sigh before falling asleep on the other side of the den.
At least tomorrow, I could see Garth again...
