"Breklynn! I thought I told I told you to pick my medicine up from the pharmacy!" My mom literally came in the house five minutes ago, and she was screaming at me already.
"Mom, I can't find my truck keys someone took them out my room." I motioned towards my room.
"Did you even bother to ask anyone if they'd seen them?" She yelled.
"If course I did! I'm not stupid, mom. I asked Seth if he was hiding them from me and, he said no but, if I wanted to check in the basement, I could. There was nothing there when I checked." I decided to leave the part out about the incident in the basement.
"Did you look through your room carefully?" She narrowed her eyes at me.
"Yes mom, I swear." I sighed.
"Let's take a look." She thumped down the hallway, the only sound between us was the tapping of her heels on the old hardwood flooring. She stopped in the doorway, and looked around my room. Her head stopped and she walked across my room. She grabbed something off the dresser and turned around.
She held my tuck keys in front of her face.
I looked at her in disbelief. "Mom. I swear, they weren't there when I-"
" I don't want to hear it Breklynn. I asked you to do simple a thing, and you couldn't even do it because you were too lazy. On top of that, you lied to me to cover up what you've done wrong." She closed her eyes, and shook her heard back and forth. "You know I need this medicine. Your selfish actions could cost me my life!"
She was overreacting a bit and this was out of character for her but, there was no use. I couldn't convince her that I was telling the truth. She wouldn't believe me, especially when she's this mad. I just had to take the blame. "You're right mom. I'm really sorry about all of this." I hated that my mom thinks I lied. I know my keys weren't there before.. Just like I know that someone was in the basement.
For 30 minutes, she lectured me about how selfish I was, and how she'll tell me my punishment tomorrow morning. When she finally left me alone in my room, I stared at they keys in my hand.
Questions ran through the my mind on how they keys got back to my room. There was no way Seth did it because after we ate he went straight to the basement. If he went to put the keys in my room, I would have saw him for sure. It couldn't have been my dad because he had a late shift tonight at work and he's not even home yet, and obviously it wasn't my mom. I gently got up from my bed and placed my keys into my jewelry box so I would exactly were they were tomorrow morning. I changed into an oversized t-shirt and some shorts and turned my light switch off. I slipped in my bed and layed there with questions and predictions about the events of today until I fell asleep.

"So, your mother told me what happened last night." My dad said from behind the morning paper.
I gave him a small sigh and shrugged my shoulders, not saying anything. I wasn't upset about last night but, I was pissed that I would be late because Cassandra overslept.
"Need a ride to school? I'm on my way to work in a few minutes." It was as if he read my mind.
I declined his offer and told him I would just drive myself.
He nodded his head and took a sip of his coffee.
I made my way to my bedroom and checked to see if my keys were still where I put them last night.
They weren't.
I immediately started looking for them. I looked all over my room to see if they were moved somehow.
