"Its only one more day Haya, you can do this, think of the reward you'll get." I say to myself as I review myself in the mirror. I look like a pastry uuugh!! Why did I even agree to this in the first place?

But its okay today it'll all be over. Because, Maya's pimple is getting better. Come to think of it. She is mad and I'm even madder, she refused to campaign herself only because of one small pimple???? No one would have even noticed if she left it alone in the first place, rather than applying all kinds of stuff to make it go away. What did she end up with? A black plaster on her nose.

Any ways I hope it goes away by tonight so I can live my life as me again.

After I see the caked-up version of me in the mirror, I head down towards the kitchen to help mom. She is making french omelets for us. Oh my! it smells awesome.

"Mommy one day when I shift to the village ill miss your lovely omelets. " I say completely mesmerized by the smell.

"Why on earth are you moving to the village Haya?" Mom asks surprised.

"Because I feel I belong their mom, the birds are calling for me and the sky there is peaceful and full of stars."

My mom laughs at my imaginatory state. "Beta its not that easy to live in a village. We are blessed with so many appliances, the villagers do it all by them selves." I frown. She doesn't know what i am going through here in the city, all this materialism has caused my sister to make me suffer, justtt for a stupid post at school which will probably last till what?? one year. but all this struggle...

"I know they do it themselves, that's what make them healthier than us." Mom is about to say something when a chirpy Maya walks in.

"Whats up girllssssss are you ready to VOOOTEEEE" she waves her hand in front of me so that I don't mistakenly miss the Vote For Maya banner she is holding.

I put my head in my hands. Why is it so difficult to live with this girl. She is sooo immature and ...I dont know.ughhh

"Yeahh we're ready to get over with this." I say in my sulky voice.

"No need to be grumpy Haya I made you so many new friends." Maya pats my back as she leaves for the car with all her colorful campaign banners after saying."I'm in the carr." She is so excited about this that she forgets breakfast. Oh well more omelette for me. But one thing gets me worried. Friends? Maya made me some friends? I mentally note that I have to inquire about this later.

I finish my omelette and head towards the car, Hope sincerely hope this day passes ASAP..

As usual the first period we have to attend and the rest will go away in canvassing and voting. I am attentive till the attendance is taken after that, I zone out becauseof the increasing anxiety. Although I have done this once before, but I still feel anxious. I dont understand how, Maya and I are so different. I mean we grew in the same house under the same parents yet we are poles apart. I am shy, reserved, sensible and she is hyper, always excited and somehow ends up in a mess which I have to clear. I wonder where fate will take us one day and I hope Maya grows mature, I fear she will remain the same kind of a bulldozer that knocks down every thing in its way. Will she ever grow up??

"Yes, miss Maya will now tell us the first three elements of the periodic table."

"Huh??" My teachers voice snaps me back to class. I had not been listening to the lecture. This hardly ever happens to me. Curse you anxiety.

"Could you please repeat the question?" I stood up now facing the teacher.

"I said first three elements in the table miss Maya."

"Em.. Hydrogen, Helium, lithium, Ber-" I get cut off by the teacher.

"Thats it Maya I asked for three only. I'm glad you're paying attention now! Yesterday's punishment paid off now didn't it?" She is smiling at me.

I'm glad I had learnt the table during the summer other wise Maya was a gonner. Something about the way the teacher is happy tells me Maya normally doesnt get so many answers right.

"Maya! You were completing the assignment yestrday you didn't even attend the lecture how do you know that? You never know chemistry." Zara nudges me from the side whispering.

I lower my head whispering back "Um.. Haya made me learn yesterday, she felt I was too caught up in all the election thing that I was neglecting studies." I blabber.

She only nods not convinced. And with that the bell rings indicating end of the first period. We make our way down the stairs and join Maya who accompanies another girl. They are busy in conversation. As soon as Maya notices me, she waves the girl goodbye. This is the same girl from yesterday, the one who was waving and thumbs-uping but I dont seem to remember ever talking to her. But then again I never talk much to people. I really hope she is not the 'NEW FRIEND' Maya made me. I dont want any friends at all.

The day goes by with us canvassing, and persuading people to vote. We meet Narmeen a couple of times but thankfully dont get into a quarrel. I really hope no body votes for her.

Finally at 11am we take down all our canvassing material as per the rules. You have to remove all your stuff and then after lunch every body goes to the gymnasium to cast their votes. Each candidate has one volunteer in the polling booth area to ensure free and fair elections. Since I'm Maya, the candidate, so Maya herself will be her own volunteer...weird no? We head towards the cafeteria I feel like I am the most hungriest person on earth. Maya and I have sandwiches and drinks and when were finished we head towards the gymnasium to cast our votes.

I feel a pang in the pit of my stomach as I show Maya's ID card and enter the gymnasium. I feel like I'm doing something illegal, which I am.

I tremble towards the first desk where the teacher cuts my name off and looks at my ID card.

"Oooo Maya who are you going to vote for?" She smiles at me but I only manage to utter three words in return. If they are even considered as words.

"Uh heh huh!" The teacher looks at me questioningly and I just make my way towards the polling booth setup in the far corner. Maya is right behind me I quickly put my vote inside the box and head towards the exit not looking back. Once I'm out I go straight to the cafeteria to get somewater.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

"What happened to you?" Maya came in the cafe and sat opposite me.

"I dont know I feel sick." I moan.

"Cheerup sister finalllyyyyy..eeee I'm so excited we get the results tmrw." She aquealed.

I on the other hand felt the least excited I just wanted to get out of all this makeup.

One by one every class enters and casts their votes. The ones who are done, gather in the cafeteria or proceed towards the ground since their wont be anymore classes for the rest of the day. Maya is busy with the volunteering so I am stuck with her admirers.

"Oh my god Maya you're so winning!!!" Zara practically jumps on me.

"I hope" I pass her a weak smile. "Lets just get our fingers crossed."

At 2:00 pm we head home and I dont waste any time in rushing to the washroom and removing the icing of makeup on me. It feels amazing to be Haya once again.
When will my sister grow up?? Seems like never. Will I always be making up for her clumsiness??
