As the contenders gathered, the sheer diversity of their origins was awe-inspiring. Jayatsena, Meghasandhi of Magadha, and the venerable Virata with his sons, Sankha and Uttara, stood side by side. Vardhakshemi, Susharma, and King Senabindu shared smiles and exchanged greetings. Abhibhu and his sons, Sudamna and Suvarchasa, stood with unwavering resolve.
The crowd was a mosaic of power and prestige, comprising Sumitra, Sukumara, Vrika, Satyadhriti, Suryadhvaja, Rochamana, Nila, Chitrayudha, Amshumana, Chekitana, and the immensely powerful Shrenimana. Chandrasena and the mighty son of Samudrasena were not to be overlooked, their presence adding to the air of grandeur.
Among the attendees, Jalasamdha, Vidanda, Danda, Poundraka mingled, exchanging glances that spoke volumes of their shared anticipation. The valiant Bhagadatta of Kalinga and the steadfast Tamralipta, king of Pattana, were also present, a symbol of the event's reach.
As the proceedings began, three competitions were announced, each a testament to the princess's spirit and prowess. One chosen by Queen Kashvi, one by King Devesh, and the final one by Princess Purnima herself. The murmurs that fluttered through the assembly were a symphony of curiosity and speculation, each contender eager to prove their worth in the eyes of the radiant princess.
King Devesh, a ruler known for his progressive vision, stepped forward and made an announcement that would echo through the ages. After the Swayamwar, whoever Princess Purnima chooses will be Prince Consort and one day after him, the throne of both Avanti and Sindhu will go to his only child, Princess Purnima will ascend the throne, and her husband would bear the title of King Consort. A murmur of disbelief and amusement rippled through the assembly, the notion of a queen ruling eliciting raised eyebrows and masked laughter.
As the crowd digested the announcement,many of the royals eyed the throne of Avanti with greed.
