Chapter 38

The sound of the utensils where the only sound occupying the dinner table as they eat in silence. It's already been two weeks and yet Kim Heesung is still giving them the silent treatment.

Whenever they tried to converse with him, he would only give them minimal answers and sometimes, he would even ignore them leaving them embarrassed. There were times when Hara would try to talk to him only to be dismissed even before she could speak to him.

It has always been this case. There were times when he would not bother going home and would just stay at the company instead.

This is the first time since that incident that he ate with them.

"Hon, your daughter is transferring her contract to Lee Entertainment tomorrow. She'll be having a press conference regarding the issue. Wouldn't it be easier for her to fix her public image with us, her parents, by her side?" Hara started. Her intention is clear. She wants him to appear with them and make them look like a loving and supportive family, always there by their daughter's side. She also wants the public to believe that Heesung favors his youngest daughter more than his biological daughter.

In other words, she wants him to take Tzuyu's side on this issue.

Tzuyu looked at her father in anticipation. If he would agree, it would help her regain her posture in the public's eye. Even if Lisa got her revenge, she still can't change the fact that her father is siding with his adoptive daughter.

However, the man was not a fool this time. He might be old but he is not disabled to not be able to know their motives. He said, "Attend the press conference if you want. Don't bother me." 

For years, I was poisoned by their acts, he thought to himself. He let them get on his head and turned his back on the only family that his wife had left him. He was too blind to take their side while watching them bully his daughter. And the fact that he, too, had gone too far as to lay his hand on her. Now he is finally regretting it but it was already too late. He had already hurt to the point that she no longer calls her "Dad" like how she used to.

She no longer looks at him with the same affection. She no longer cooks for him like how she used to when she was a child. He remembered her hands filled with cuts and burns while busying herself in the kitchen, making him his favorite pasta dish. She no longer does any of that. Because from the moment he had laid his hands on her...

He's no longer her dad.

Hara frowned. She could not believe it. He's refusing to side with their daughter again! "But this is a crucial matter, Heesung! She's getting bullied by everyone on the internet! If we could support her and fix her image, she wouldn't be targeted like this anymore," she said in frustration. 

Heesung lifted his gaze to glare at her. "She did that to herself. I am not as dumb as to tolerate what she's done, Hara," he stated angrily. It is true though. She wouldn't have received such backlash if it weren't for her wrongdoings. He had long taken sides with her even when he knew all too well that what she was doing was wrong. Now, he won't make that same mistake.

"But she is your daughter!"

"Mom, Dad, please don't fight," Tzuyu cried out. She, too, was shocked to hear her father speak like that about her. It sounded like he had already given up on her. "You don't have to go and attend my press conference, Mom. Dad is right. I did this to myself so I should fix this on my own."

Hara looked at her daughter and felt sympathetic. She saw her daughter shedding tears silently while biting her lips. She looked so pitiful and as a mother, she couldn't bear to see her daughter like that so she glared at her husband. "Do you see that? She's being bullied by everyone. She only has us now yet you still refuse to help her," she said.
