After that, the change happened. It was slow, but Katsuki noticed it anyway. It had started with small things, like skipping out on walking into the convivence store on his walk back home from school, or not getting his favorite drink from the vending machines.

Katsuki had shrugged those things off. Maybe Deku had just gotten over them. It happens all the time, its not anything to pop a blood vessel over. Maybe he would grow out of the UA thing too. That would be a lot better. He'd put that dumb dream to rest and let Katsuki shine.

But then, he stopped smiling.

He didn't even flash that annoying smile that pissed Katsuki off. Nothing. It was replaced with blank stares and pitiful looks. He didn't even bother to say anything to him anymore or try to get him to stop fucking with him. It was like he was on autopilot the whole time, even in class.

Thats when he should have done something.

But he didn't.

He just ignored it all, opting for pretending everything was normal.

Katsuki stands up after the bell rings, packing away his stuff. Students leave the classroom in groups, ready to go home and take a break from school. Katsuki notices in the corner of his eye that Deku is taking a lot more time to put his shit away in his bag.

He doesn't have time to sit around and wait for the nerd so he can beat the shit out of him with exams coming up. He needs to go home and study as much as possible. The two of his classmates go over to him, snacks in hand.

While the two are talking, Deku finally finishes putting his stuff away. He shrugs on his big yellow backpack, staring at the ground like it's the most interesting thing on the whole planet. Then, as he walks to the door to leave, he glances at Katsuki.

They make eye contact, but Deku doesn't do anything. Just stares, his green eyes missing that shine that made Deku, Deku. He keeps looking at him like that before walking out, going in the opposite direction of the schools exits and main gate.

As Katsuki and his two classmates leave to go home, he glances behind him. He sees Deku retreating up the stairs leading to the second floor. He can only see his back, his big yellow backpack standing out so much that it would be impossible to miss it.

The shit nerd probably forgot his stupid assignment again.

Figures.

He's going to fuck up right before the exams and no one is going to help him out when he fails. Katsuki had gone home like any other day. He studied, the only thing on his mind being exams and sleep schedules. Nothing was out of place, and he was ready for the day to end.

That was until his mom burst into his room.

He looked at her, ready to yell at being interrupted when such an important date was just coming up, but he stopped. He saw her face, her wide eyes and how pale she was. She looked like she had just seen a ghost.

She looked jumpy, almost itching to go to where she needed to, ready to crawl out of her skin. Katsuki stopped his writing to turn his full attention onto her, now clearly alert.

"Katsuki. We have to go, I-"

She choked up slightly and he instantly got up from his chair.

"Something happened with Izuku."

He had felt the panic, sure, but what could have possibly happened? Deku must have done something pretty fucking bad if the old hag was reacting like this.

So they left the house and went all the way to the police station.

Deku must have gotten in trouble. Maybe he stole something. That didn't sound like him at all, but it's not like he's been acting like himself lately.

The doors into the police station slid open smoothly, the buzz of computers and workers filling the space. His eyes scan the area, but Mitsuki was quicker.

"Inko!"

Sitting on a blue plastic chair against a wall is inko Midoriya, her eyes puffy and red. She has her hands clasped tightly together in her lap, shaking. When she looks up and sees Mitsuki and Masaru approaching her, she breaks out in sobs, her lip wobbling.

"M-Mitsuki!"

Katsuki watched for a second before looking around again, hands in his pockets as he walked over. Aunt inko was always a crier, just like her son. It wasn't unusual for her to burst into tears of worry.

"Where's D- Izuku?"

Inko looks at him, still shaking in the chair with tearful eyes. She seems to cry even harder, and Katsuki regrets asking. That idiot is probably being questioned or some shit for whatever the hell it is he did.

It's just like him to make everyone worry, especially aunt inko.

A police officer comes over, looking over the four of them with a grim expression on his face. He holds out a paper enclosed in a plastic cover.

"Here was the suicide note found at the scene."

He leaves the statement in the air, and Katsuki just stares at him in shock and confusion.

What the hell was this man talking about?

The police officer looks at the sobbing inko after Masaru took the paper from his hand. He gives her a sad look and gently says,

"Ma'am, we got word from the doctors that he died on impact. It was instant."

With that, he bows, and leaves, heading to do more work. Katsuki stands there with his parents, not knowing what to say.

Died on impact?

A suicide note?

Katsuki feels cold shivers wrack his body as his eyes widen. He looks at the paper Masaru is holding, and it hits him.

Deku isn't here because he's being questioned, nor is inko crying because she's worried about him.

Deku isn't here because he killed himself right after school, heading all the way to the roof and leaving a suicide note with only a few words on it.

And Katsuki sits down, staring blankly ahead.
