eighteen: clandestine meeting and stolen stares

Melissa hadn't been able to look her kids in the eye ever since that night at the station.

Everyone was in their sort of mess, Stiles was having regular check-ins with the school counselor, Allison was no longer talking to any of them, Issac had been MIA for a week now and honestly, the most normal one was Lydia.

Rowan and Scott didn't know how to talk about it, how did they talk to their mother about being a werewolf and being a girl who was just really good with weaponry and firearms?

There isn't any correct way to, so they just did it.

Every morning before school each twin would try their luck, talking softly to Melissa's closed door trying to assure her everything was going to be okay once they explained.

They were always just met with silence, but both twins, with werewolf senses or not, knew she was listening on the other side.

That particular day, the twins ended school and headed home. Scott was in his room taking a shower while Rowan was getting tired of her mom ignoring her.

She missed her mom, her hugs, and their long conversations. When she saw Melissa in the hospital whenever she was on shift, her mother wouldn't even meet her eyes.

"Mom? Come on Mom, we have to talk about this eventually. You can't avoid us forever." Rowan knocked on her mom's door, but as usual, there was no response. Rowan sighed.

"Mom we seriously have to talk -" Rowan opened her door but stopped, her heart in her throat.

Her mother was there, with the Knimas tail wrapped around her neck. Rowan turned wide-eyed towards Gerard who already had a gun pointed at her forehead.

Rowan could hear her mother scream but the Kanimas tail had wrapped around her mouth too.

"Gerard, always a pleasure," Rowan said flatly trying to mask her shock, Gerard chuckled deeply.

"Rowan, it's nice to see you."

"I can't say the same, unfortunately"

Gearad forced Rowan and her mother into Scott's room. The Kanima perched itself in the top corner of the room, holding Mellisa out with just its tail. Rowan held her mother's frightened gaze from where she stood in front of Gerard, his gun pointed at her head.

They all waited silently as Scott finally walked out of the shower, his eyes widening when he first saw his mom tangling in front of him by the tail of the Kanima.

He immediately whipped to face Rowan, his jaw clenching when he saw Gerard behind her holding her gunpoint.

"As you can see Scott, there have been some interesting developments lately. I think we should catch up," Gerard smirked.

Scott's claws came out but Geard just smiled," Come on Scott be realistic about who's got the upper hand here."

"Let them go." Scott grit his teeth. Rowan tried to offer her brother a reassuring smile, but getting held at gunpoint twice in one week does something to a girl.

"Can't do that, but let them live? That's up to you." Gerard raised a brow.

"What do you want?" Scott asked.

"I wanna talk. You haven't been answering your phone."

"Let them go, and we can talk about whatever you want" Scott shot Gerard a look. Rowan watched her twin carefully, she wasn't too sure what kind of secret agreement Gerard and him had but she knew they had been scheming in secret.

"I want the same thing ive always wanted, I want Derek and his pack," Gerard said as he walked to stand in front of Melissa, his gun still pointed casually at Rowan as Scott went to stand next to her.
