Rowan wasn't sure how long they had been practicing.

She stood at the side and watched Stiles miss a lot of his shots, but also noticed he was improving. The girl had been grabbing a ball off the field for Stiles to use when Scott cleared his throat.

"Hey Ro, I think you have a visitor." Scott grinned as he pointed behind her. Stiles turned around as his face morphed into a smirk.

"What?" Rowan frowned in annoyance. The girl turned and held her breath.

Issac Lahey was a few feet away, walking towards her with that stupid grin he had when he was with her.

Rowan stopped fighting the butterflies a long time ago.

"Hey. You guys don't mind if I borrow her for a moment right?" Issac asked, coming to a stop in front of her, raising a brow at the two boys.

"Nope."

"She's all yours. Literally."

"Jerks," Rowan muttered under her breath as Issac grabbed her hand and led her to the bleachers, Scott and Stiles's snickers could be heard behind.

Rowan and Issac sat on the first row of seats, facing each other. Their knees touched as Issac kept their interlocked hands between them. Rowan wasn't sure how to start this conversation, but Issac did.

"I was gonna leave. I had a bag in my hand and I was on my way to the woods but I stopped. I couldn't leave. I thought to myself I couldn't leave this place. I couldn't leave you." Issac said, his eyes meeting hers. Rowan had no words.

"You know, ive had a crush on you since freshman year. You probably didn't even know I existed but I watched you all the time. I was always so fascinated by your dynamic with Stiles and Scott like, what did these two idiots do to deserve someone like you."

"They don't." Rowan let out a small smile. Issac laughed softly, his smile sending sparks down her spine.

"Yeah, they don't. I watched you for a long time, and I realized you had so many layers to your personality. I wanted to see what was underneath the scary glare and crossed arms." Issac spoke softly, his thumb moving gently across her hand. Rowan could feel her heart speed up as he stared at him.

"And did you? See what was underneath?" Rowan asked quietly, both intrigued and terrified for the answer.

"I saw a girl, who is always so afraid to trust. Who is scared to open her heart because she's afraid people will leave or hurt her. I see someone afraid to love and be loved." Issac said, his gaze unwavering and his voice steady.

Rowan felt her heart tug. Never once had she ever felt so vulnerable, so raw. Rowan had thought all the walls she had put up were enough, but Issac saw through it all.

He saw her.

"Im scared. Im scared of trusting the wrong person and getting hurt. Im scared of falling in love, only for it to end up in flames. Im scared of being loved, because what if they looked further and realized im not who they thought I was." Rowan said quietly, her eyes shut tight not daring to look at him.

It was probably the most vulnerable, honest thing the girl had ever said in her life. Not once had she ever admitted those things. Not even to herself.

"But what if they don't? Rowan, sometimes you need to let your heart take the reigns. Not your head. You don't have to be scared with me, because no matter how hard you tried i saw the real you. I know the real you. " Issac whispered. His hand reached out to tug a strand of hair behind her ear, he let his fingers linger on her cheek.

"I know who you are Rowan and I really like you," Issac said softly, his gentle gaze made Rowan's heart pound. She felt Issac squeeze their hands.

"You do?" Rowan whispered. Issac smiled a special smile, one she had never seen before. And that's when she knew, that smile was just for her.

"Scowl and guns and all. I do." Issac laughed softly. Rowan loved that fucking laugh.

"Issac i- I don't know how to do this. Ive never been with someone who wasn't just looking for casual sex, or with strings attached." Rowan frowned worriedly. Even with her ex-boyfriend, they were never that serious. There weren't strings attached.

But when Rowan thought about it, when she was with Issac there wasn't anyone else she wanted to be with. With Issac, nothing else mattered.

"Do you like me?" Issac smiled knowingly.

"Yeah, unfortunately, I do." Rowan smiled back.

"Then trust me Red. We'll figure it out. Together." Issac nodded. The boy watched Rowan for any sort of reaction.

He knew it was going to be hard to convince someone as stubborn as Rowan to agree to a relationship. Rowan had few reasons to trust people, what made him think he could convince her to fully trust him?

But Issac Lahey never expected himself to fall for Rowan McCall more than he already had. That girl had a magnetic pull on him. From the small smile she made when she took photos using her camera, to the frown she made whenever she did math.

The fact that he knew she only made that frown when she did math.

Rowan knew if she decided to do this, she could get hurt. She could get heartbroken.

But as she squeezed Issac's hand in hers, as her gaze met his, she wasnt afraid.

Issac Lahey was Rowan McCall's safe place.

Rowan surprised the both of them when she leaned forward, pressing her lips to his. Issac's eyes fluttered shut as one of his hands wove around the back of her head, the other trapping her chin between his fingers.

Rowan deepened the kiss as her arms wrapped around his neck, the girl's tongue swiped over Issac's lower lip and she smiled when she felt him groan.

"HELL YEAH!" A yell suddenly sounded. The two of them separated their lips, their hands still stayed where they were as they turned to face the field.

Scott and Stiles stood together watching the both of them with big dopy smiles. Rowan shook her head but her grin never slipped away.

"CREEPS!" Rowan called. Scott grinned.

"I knew it. Stiles pay up." Scott cheered. Stiles rolled his eyes as he handed Scott 5 bucks.

"Yall couldn't wait till the end of the month?" Stiles grumbled in annoyance. Rowan and Issac chuckled in amusement, guess others had been waiting for this a long time too.

"Can I kiss you again?" Issac whispered against her lips, his gaze hot. Rowan grinned, her thumb brushing over his lips.

"we're gonna have lots of fun Lahey."
