It was too much for her mind to bear.
The bridge collapsing, the constant fighting, how sore her body was, the communication device not working, Officer Blight letting her go...and Hunter.
What had happened to Hunter.
His eyes were glowing like he had been possessed. He had blown up a city block and a bridge and even attempted to kill her. Not to mention, he was now physically enhanced and working for someone.
No...no, that someone had to have been behind this.
"It can't be him...someone did this! Someone did this!!!" Spider-Witch cried to herself as she swung through the air, her arms aching more and more.
Every web she spun and swung on made her feel like her arms were going to fall right off. She had to get home.
Did she even have enough time to sleep? Would she even be able to sleep after learning?
What was going to tell Vee? Or Caleb? Or her mother? Or Gus? Or-
"Willow." Spider-Witch said aloud as she finally saw her house nearby and landed on the roof, panting heavily as she laid against it, clearly exhausted and needing a breather. "...what...what am I gonna tell Willow? I...I...H-Hunter, I...I..."
She tore off her mask and then transformed back. Tears quickly started to stain her eyes as she took out the communication device and stuffed it in her pocket before she crawled onto the walls of her house, peeking through the window of her and Vee's room.
And sure enough, Vee was at the computer, rapidly typing and even smashing her hand against the table. "Work, you damn thing! Luz, can you read me!?"
"...Vee..." Luz said as she opened the window and crawled through it, landing on the floor.
Vee spun around in her chair and gasped before she rushed over to her sister, hugging her and then looking her over. "What happened!? I've been trying to reach you all night!!!"
Luz was dead silent as she hugged her sister back even tighter.
Eventually, she began to sob. "V-Vee...Vee, I-I...I...!"
"H...hey...hey, it's okay..." Vee said gently as she rubbed her sister's back in circles. "It's okay...you're here, that's all that matters. You're okay."
"N-no! No, Vee!" Luz said as she broke the hug. "I'm not okay! A-a bridge exploded!!!"
Vee's eyes widened in sheer horror. "WHAT!?"
"I-I saved as many as I-I could, b-but then...t-then..." Luz wiped her eyes and clenched her fists. "...I-I know who the Golden Goblin is..."
Vee's eyes only widened further and her heart almost stopped in fear. "W...who?"
"...it's Hunter." Luz said as more tears fell down her face.
And just like that, Vee fell deathly silent as she stared at Luz. She looked at her sister, wanting to find any trace of a misunderstanding or a lie.
But as the tears kept falling, Vee could see it. Her sister was telling the truth.
"...w...what...?" Vee whispered. "N...no, I...w...why...?"
Luz wiped her eyes. "I-I don't k-know, but...but his eyes were glowing...s-someone did something t-to him, I...I..."
She then hugged her sister again, beginning to cry even more as the memories of her and her best friend's fight came flooding back.
Vee eventually began to cry too, hugging her sister back as she buried her face into her neck, her tears staining her shirt.
They cried over their friend for what seemed like forever until they finally stopped. Luz laid down on her bed, still sore from her fight.
Vee went back to her chair and then looked at the communication device she had made in silence before looking up the news of her city. And sure enough, there was already videos on the subject of the bridge exploding and Hunter, likely preparing for the morning report.
As if any of them wanted to hear this while waking up.
"...you're not lying..." Vee whispered. "H-Hunter's in jail..."
Luz turned. "I...I-I tried to convince the police it wasn't him, a-and they believed me...or Amity's dad did, I think...I-I don't know...H-Hunter shouldn't be in prison. He's 18!"
"People have gone to jail before around that age, Luz." Vee said, turning to her. "Technically, you should be in jail too. You're a vigilante no matter how many good reviews you've got."
Luz sighed. "It's why I'm so surprised that Officer Blight let me go. Maybe he just saw I was the good guy...w-what are we gonna do, Vee? About Hunter? What are we going to tell Willow and Gus?"
"...I don't know..." Vee whispered before taking a deep breath as she wiped a few more tears from her eyes. "I-I wasn't thinking about h-how they'd react...y-ya think Mama will let us stay home tomorrow? Neither of us have gotten much sleep..."
"How long until we have to wake...?" Luz asked, meekly hoping she wasn't gone for very long. She wanted to just sleep and let this be tomorrow's problem.
Vee sighed. "4 hours maybe if we go to sleep now..."
"Good enough." Luz said with a deep breath as she laid back.
Vee nodded and then laid down in her own bed. "...one of the reports said there were no casualties at the bridge...that's amazing, Luz."
Luz turned her head, looking at her sister.
Vee turned her head as well, facing her twin. "If you weren't there and that bridge exploded, who knows how many people would have died? You saved them all."
'Then why couldn't I save Hunter?' She thought before nodding. "Yeah...and I'm sore from it...I-I just...sorry...t-tonight's just been one of the worst nights of my life..."
Vee sighed and laid her head on her pillow. "...don't be sorry...I'm here, sis. Noceda Twins, remember?"
Luz smiled weakly. "Y-yeah...y'know...we should have code names. Over the coms. Once we get it working." She said, trying to cheer herself up.
"Not a bad idea." Vee said before sighing. "Let's try and get some sleep. If we even can...it's gonna be okay, Luz...we'll figure something out."
