I learned what to look for in someone in a romantic relationship at the ripe old age of six.

I had snuck into my grandmother's room after waking up from a horrible dream. A demon chasing me, a very frequent nightmares that year.

As soon as I entered the room, I went to the bed, but my grandmother wasn't there — a demon was leaning on the wall opposite of the bed.

I ran as soon as it moved towards me.

I managed to get out the door and run.

I reached my dad's bedroom door. I pressed the doorknob and slammed the door shut.

The slam radiates through the whole room.

I turn around, the window curtain flows away from the window.

"Dad?"

Silence surrounded me.

Slosh.

I flinch, turning to my right.

My body slams onto the ground, something pulls my legs.

I screamed, gripping the carpet, trying to pull away.

Everything turned pitch white.

My grandmother was lying in her bedroom, a spicy bread roll beside her.

Awendea's Diary playing on the old brown TV, on top of the table.

I watched from the doorway, till Awendea got the job offer.

I walked over to the bed and climbed onto it.

Grandmother smiles at me, putting the blanket between us.

The camera zooms into a park, and it zooms to the garden area. Awendea is sitting on a flower decorated bench, and the camera zooms to her phone.

A text from "cuter, charming one" came from her phone.

The camera zooms to Awendea's face, she stares at it for a while before responding with, "sorry, but I don't think this relationship will work out."

She pulls up to the number of the boring plain looking one, and sent him a text asking where they should meet up for the date

The movie rolled up the credits.

Grandmother paused the movie; I looked up at her. "Why did she choose the boring one over the charming one?"

My grandmother laughed. The mysterious perfume she wore and her deep rustic voice, seemingly amplifying in that moment.

"Charm and beauty can only get you so far before issues arise. You need someone who is ready for a relationship, mentally especially, a relationship with the same or similar priorities, and of course you have to get along with each other. If that relationship doesn't have that, it's doomed."
