Love You Right

Chapter 9

Kourtney's POV~

My eyes are closed. My forehead pressed against hers. My hand is still on her cheek, hers on mine.

I feel that my whole body has gone limp. The kiss was soft, nothing intense. Yet, it felt so intense.

The pad of her thumb lightly moves against my cheek. It lulls my eyes open. As they snap open, they find hers.

Her hazel brown eyes connect with my deep brown eyes. "My hearts pounding so hard right now." Caelan says.

Caelan softly takes my hand off her cheek with her other hand and places it over her heart. She's right. It feels as if it's trying to beat out of her chest.

I take my other hand to grab hers, pulling it to rest against my heart. Allowing her to feel how fast and hard mine is beating.

"Mine to." I say. We both let out a nervous chuckle, as if we were back to being school kids.

"Is dinner still an offer?" I ask. "Yeah, it's almost finished up." She says. I nod my head and watch as she finishes cooking.

I can't help but bite my lip as I try not to smile so hard. My phone starts ringing, I see that it's a FaceTime call from Steph.

Answering it, I see that she is sitting on her couch with a glass of wine.

"Hey, Steph." I say. She knows all about what happened with Scott and that I'm staying at Caelan's.

"Hey, hun. Where's Cae?" She asks. I chuckle, shaking my head in disbelief that she's not calling for me.

I make the camera flip and hold my phone up so she can see Caelan. All she sees is the back of her, though.

Her broad muscular shoulders, her strong arms, and toned back. All outlined by her shirt.

"Caelan, Steph wants to talk to you." I say, getting the taller woman's attention. She turns around slightly. "Hey, Steph." She says.

Stephanie used to be Kim's assistant until she started her own business. Now she is a good friend of ours.

Stephanie and Simon have been my best friends for years now. They have been by my side anytime I have needed them.

Whenever I needed to escape from Scott's drama, they'd take me out. Or we'd stay in at one of their places.

Steph is close with Caelan because she and Kim hang out a lot as well.

"Is Kourtney making you cook for her?" Steph asks. Caelan chuckles, shaking her head. "I was cooking before she came in." Caelan says.

"I've been seeing a lot of rumors going around." Steph, start. Caelan's eyes find mine. She can't see Steph as my phone screen is still faced towards me.

I turn my camera back around, so Steph is seeing me. "We have been talking about this for weeks." I say.

Steph laughs, sipping on her wine. "You and I have, but I have yet to hear from Caelan about it." Stephanie says.

Caelan gets out two plates and starts plating up the food. Then she comes and leans against the counter.

"I saw you the other day when I came by Kim's." Caelan says. "Yes, but you didn't stay long." Steph says.

"Honestly, though, is there really nothing going on between you two?" Stephanie asks.

Caelan and I lock eyes once again. I'm searching for answers. I'm sure she is as well.

"Oh my god!" Steph says, pulling us out of our trance. "Did something happen?" She asks, leaning in closer to her phone.

Caelan's face heats up, and she looks away as I bite my lip, trying not to smile.

I talked to Steph for a little while longer, and she promised not to say anything.

Caelan and I sat down on the barstools and ate dinner. Stealing glances at each other the whole time.

"Uhm, today my mom mentioned something." Caelan starts, breaking the silence.

"What did she mention?" I ask, curious as my mother also mentioned things.

"She mentioned that, uhm, you had a crush on me when we were kids." Caelan says. A small smile on her face.

I feel my face heat up, and I have to look away from her. Trying to hide it, but by her chuckle, I can tell she saw.

"Yeah, that's true." I admit. My face heating up more. "Is that why you always used to hold my hand?" She asks.

I gasp, "You remember that?" I ask in shock. Caelan laughs with a wide smile. "Of course I do. My face used to heat up every time. Plus, you'd get upset any time I'd let go." She says.

I laugh, shaking my head at her. "You can't blame me. You'd let go a lot and run off to play with Kim." I say.

"Maybe... it is safe to say that you were a little jealous of that factor." Caelan says. Her brow was raising slightly.

"Maybe." I say softly. Coming to the realization of how close we are again. My eyes shoot down to her lips, tracing over them.

Once I see her tongue swiped out over them, my eyes find hers. Caelan's eyes are locked onto my lips.

Nervously, I trap my bottom lip between my teeth. This causes her to look up at my eyes.

I lean in more and rest my forehead against hers. The tip of our noses touching.

"What are we going to do now?" Caelan asks in a soft voice. Barely above a whisper.

"I think. I think that we should really step back and try and figure out what's between us." I say.

Caelan rests her hand on mine on top of the island counter. She rubs her thumb over the back of my hand.

Nodding her head slightly, she places a small kiss on my cheek. Before she pulls away, I wrap my arms around her neck. Hugging her.

Caelan wraps her arms around my waist.

Tonight, we don't have our nightly talks. I think we both needed time to allow ourselves to actually process what happened.

As I do my night routine and get ready for bed, I can't get the smile off my face.

The feel of her lips on mine burned into my memory. The way her heart was beating.

I replay it over and over. It's as if I can hear it. I have always loved her hazel eyes. They are so much lovelier up close.

The way they shine under the light. The glistening in them when she was looking into my eyes.

I trap my bottom lip between my teeth as my smile grows wider. Hurting my cheeks.

As I look into the mirror of the bathroom. My face heats up, and I chuckle like a teenager.

After finishing up, I head back to the room and crawl into bed. Snuggling into the blankets.

I wish that it was Caelan's arms wrapped around me instead. Our bodies cuddled up together.
