It has been 9 moths since I last saw my friends, I had really good grades in high school so I started collage a year early. I got a scholarship at the university my sister studied at and had to move to England with her. I was really hesitant but Jeremiah convinced me to follow my dream.I missed the whole summer but they filled me in. Although Jere sounded weird when we talked, he started to becaume distant , everyone did. But I didn't have the time to overthink it.
Me and Jere used to talk to the phone every night but the past 2 or 3 months he is always busy or tired.
I am half asleep on my desk. A book is placed on my lap and another one under my head. I am extremely tired since the finals are aproaching. Our universtity let me and my sister take our final exam 2 months early sothat we could go and surprise everyone back at home. I missed them, I missed my family.
I can hear annoying sound and after a couple of seconds of ignoring it, I open my eyes. It's my phone. I pick it up and she that the caller is Susannah. Susannah is the mother of my best friend, more like my second mom. Her and my mom used to be best friends but when mom died Susannah stepped up and became a role model at me, a mother figure me and my sister needed.
"Hello?" I pick up.
"Honey? Hi! Is this a good time to talk to you?" She asks with a weird tone in her voice and I immedietaly sit up.
"Yeah. Whatever you need."
"I want to ask you a huge favour." She starts.
"Sure." I smile but start to get a little worried.
"You know how hard is here at home and I hoped you could come for some time for Jere, he really needs you." I hear a glint of sadness in her voice but I am shocked.
"What do you mean?" I ask her
"Honey? You don't know?" She sounds shocked too.
"Know what? Jere hasn't been talking to me that much lately." I confess
"Oh God!" She breaths.
"What? What is going on Susannah?"
"Honey I am sorry."
"You are sorry about what?" I start to get overwhelmed.
"I am not going to make it." She whispers.
"What?" I am in denial. This can not be happening. "Is this a prank? You are fine." I try to avoid the truth.
I don't hear a response.
"Right?" I try.
"Right?!" I try one more time but this time a sob leaves my mouth. Tears start to form in my eyes and I can barerly hold the phone.
