The Welcome Mat

Nobody ever asked the welcome mat
If it had a good day
Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it had something to say

Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it cared when they rubbed dirt in its face
Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it was happy in its place

Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it enjoyed being on the floor
Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it liked being stepped on on the way to the door

Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it had any tears to shed
Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it lied awake in bed

Nobody ever asked the welcome mat how many times it lent a helping hand
Nobody ever asked the welcome mat about the footprints it left in the sand

Nobody ever asked the welcome mat if it could handle all the pain
Nobody ever asked the welcome mat, only used it for their own gain
